Do you ever do something and think 2 seconds after you've done it. "Why did I do that?". Today I was driving to work in my BMW. It's an old e21 Auto and I use the gears on the autobox to slow down for roundabouts. Rather than going from drive to 2nd I went from Drive to reverse at about 30mph! It didn't like it much and I left a big 11 down the middle of the road. It obviously stalled but started straight away (once I calmed down and realised I was trying to start it in drive). Thankfully no one was behind me. Previously I've: Driven my Cortina to the car wash, put my keys in my jacket then put the jacket in the boot (to stop it getting wet). This would he okay if you could open the boot without a key but you can't. When the rear door on my Alfa wouldn't open from the outside but would from the inside I somehow though that switching the child lock from one position to the other would fix it. Subsequently I can;t open it from the inside or the outside. Forgot to put the oil filler cap back on my bluebird before driving away. I only realised when I heard it clunk through the engine bay onto the road. I stopped the car and went back for it only to see Bus driving over the top of it. I guess life would be boring without these things happening now and again. Have a racing Cortina:

Yeah, things I regretted almost imeadiately after:
neutral-drop burnout in my Oldsmobile which destroyed the transmission
bought a Chysler Fifth Avenue which sucked money faster than a divorce
Sold said car to a guy who got very "upset" about it.
Sold my V8 Victor after spending years of my life and zillions of quids getting it how I wanted it
Sold my P5B
Went all the way to Faversham from Nottingham to pick up a free Victor which was not even worht the cost of the fuel I used picking it up. Spend the whole trip back trying to justify in my mind why I had bothered.

It's that sinking feeling after you've done it. I spent an hour at that car wash trying to get the back seats out the cortina with what was basically a toy screw driver I had in the glove box.

Getting over excited after a big pay increase and chucking in my Matiz for a Subaru Impreza sport (to keep the insurance down). Not sure if the biggest downer was realising how curse word it was to drive, or stuffing it into a tree two days later...

The child lock one really made me laugh, because it's not just a daft moment, it's that you thought it through, then I imagine realised just as the door went 'thunk' how daft you'd been.... ;D ;D

It was only 2 weeks old at the time.

I took the battery out my BMW then pushed the lock button down on the back door (battery's under the back seat on an e34). The security system in the BMW meant I couldn't unlock it without the battery in it and I couldn't get in it to put the battery in I made a 3 foot long stick with a notch in it then climbed in the boot and managed to poke the lock up through the SKi hatch.
I did this twice.

spent a fortune building a full on hi spec'd series one rs turbo cabriolet, using all genuine parts, I worked at ford at the time. A mate had a mk4 with electric hood, witch I thought was just the coolest thing at the time. Sold mine and went and bought a mk4 xr3i tennis limited edition thing. as soon as I drove down the road in it I had that sinking feeling....

Mk1 Fiesta with no handles, solenoids operated by fob on ignition key. Stood chatting to my mates with the engine running and my (now ex) wife getting out and shutting the door behind her. Took me an hour to get back in without doing any damage to it

Trying to get the Monza running right on carbs after I first fitted them and not having a huge amount of success, lots of schoolboy errors as well as some "faults" with the carbs - so it running on the drive with the ignition key in and on and the door shut but unlocked
My neighbour came round for a moan about the noise - it wasn't late but I said no worries i'm getting nowhere fast I'll call it a day
Pulled door handle and I heard a ping and the door wouldn't open - Monza door handles have been known to do this.
Tried the passenger door and that was still locked too - iffy central locking only works from passenger door and on top of that I could have never opened it enough to get in but a handy stick in hand would have worked the electric window
No probs I thought spare keys in the house
House key with car key in ign- and she's out for the day
Other neighbour has a spare house key they are out too
engine still running
remove king lead to kill engine and hop about for a little while to get the feeling back in my arm
Search garage for all the old vauxhall keys and locks and try each one in the boot lock till I found one that fitted and opened the boot lock - climb in past the roll cage to open the door and turn of ignition and remove key!
Go inside and make tea

All the above are hilarious....
Was going to an interview a few years back when I first moved to Greece. Arrive at the Metro station and park up. I had a Starlet Turbo with a turbo timer which keeps the engine idling for a few minutes after switching off. I get out, push the pin down in the door, hold the handle and close the door to lock it (as I usally did). I walk away with the engine idling, get down the road and realise its not switching off... i'd left the keys in the ignition and the engine running. Had to get my mum to drive 25 minutes to bring me the spare keys.
BTW, its impossible to stall a car with a 3 inch tailpipe by blocking it up. Tried ramming stuff in it for 10 minutes....

Thats interesting, we used to stall each others cars while parked up and chatting by pushing the sole of your shoe against the tail pipe, before the days of dustbin exhausts though.

Getting out of the car wearing my sunglasses, don't need them in the office I'll drop them through the sunroof its open a couple of inches. Glasses in left hand keys in right hand, drop contents of right hand through gap in sunroof. Took me three rulers and a staple remover taped together to get them back. Cutting the rubber seal on a brake caliper piston as it was a tight fit. Aprroaching roundabout and realising a cut in the seal means brake fluids going to pee out. Didn't matter how much I pumped my 1961 Rover 100 wasn't going to slow down.

i went through a puddle the other week, forgetting i had no inner arches, and totaly soaked the electrics. i got out opened the bonnet and sprayed everything with wd40 my mate jumped in the car while i was looking at the engine and started it up it started he got out closed the door and about a second later the alarm locked all the doors. so we were locked out of a running car at the side of a narrow country lane. thought the best thing to do was probably get the engine to stop so my mate tried to disconnect the coil which ended with an electric shock a smell of burning and the ngine was still running so i took the air box off and blocked the air intake. then i had to call the aa waited 45 mins for them to turn up then it took him probably 45seconds to get the door open.
oh well live and learn.
