Hey All I'm soon gonna be off work for about 4 weeks after an op.I need something to relieve the B-O-R-I-N-G task of sitting indoors doing nothing!Thinking about buying a plastic car kit to build ,as its easy to do from a kitchen table, without too much stress (lol!)!Wheres the best place to go for a good selection to choose from? Thinking about a largish model bigger than 1/24 th. Havent done any of this for about 30 years!

Support your local model shop if it's any good... but Ebay usually has a vast selection. www.spc.org.uk is a good forum to have a look through, just don't get intimidated by the quality of the builds... or get ideas beyond your skill level as I seem to do, and end up not finishing anything.

If you're after larger than 1:24 but for sensible money, I reckon that eBay will be your best bet. Various vintage cars, as well as '55 & '57 Chevys and T Birds are often available on eBay in 1:16. There's also a 1:12 vintage Bentley and 1:12 57 Chevy, mid '60s Corvette Sting Ray coupe and late '60s Camaro but iirc they fetch a bit more. What sort of cars would you like to build? If you haven't done much before, I'd highly recommend starting with a kit that has been recommended as easy to build (ie all the parts actually fit correctly etc - you'd be surprised how many kits can need tweaking in order to build them nicely...) As Phil says, the various modelling forums are an excellent source of advice, and many have an FAQs section which is very useful for beginners. There's also an excellent one at Automotive Forums. If you'd like any tips etc, and / or advice on a particular model, please don't hesitate to ask!

I would avoid the airfix bentley from what I have read - not a great kit I gather.

I'm OK with advanced stuff. My r/c tug that needs finishing is a bit big/dirty to do indoors ,so decided on a plastic kit.Used to be in to 1/24 scale ,but turned my attention to my mini wagons ,radio flyer etc.Not sure really what I want to build .Just summat that appeals to me on a whim really. The cost is a bit of an eye opener TBH!
