Hi all , I have decided to redo my thread on the build up of my bedford cf , I asked the moderators kindly to delete my old thread so I could redo it the way I want it. so here goes again lol. my intentions are to redo a 70s style custom with a custom interior that transforms into a camper for weekends away with the family. my van as brought from ebay . I always wanted a mk1 cf , but they are pretty rare in the standard van form. so a cf2 was sourced to provide the bodyshell ( no difference to the cf1 ). after all you cant do a 70s custom van with a 80s body can you. lol my plans are widened arches front and back , the rear arches leading into a rear rolled vallance , the front arches flaring up from a front spoiler. may run side skirts , not 100% sure as yet . my chevy v8 305 cubic inch (or 5.0 ltr) , the block was chemically cleaned , all casting slag removed via a grind stone and a dremmel , all oilways smoothed and opened up. the block was the cleaned again and over bored by 60thou . basically becoming a 315 ci v8 ( around 5.2 ltr). complete rebuild purchased , flat top pistons, reground crank , new bearings all round , high lift cam , basically everthing within the engine has been replaced with higher performance new equipment .

should be plenty for the v8. 8inch wide 15" rims . wolfrace slot mags , uni lug fitting . brought from mumbersons american breakers for a tenner each. brought a polishing ebay , used a orbital sander with 120 grit pads to remove the oxidization from the rims , then followed the instructions in the polishing kit to achieve the results above. I'm pleased with them. £20 for the two rims and 60 quid for the polishing kit. quite a result.

single leaf rear springs off a early rotton cf1 i have . stripped ,cleaned and hammerited. these are to replace the 7 leaf later cf springs that gave the vans a higher load carrying capacity. lowers the rear end too. new spring perchs made for the axle to locate on. might need to make lowering blocks eventually to bring the rear down some more. shackle bolt plates , 6mm steel plate , hard work shaping these BODYWORK, rear doors , stripped back oof original paint and re primered . the original door handle has been removed and the panel smoothed , these wil be only openable from inside the van. the side door on the cf is a metre long , so when its opened out it opens over the passenger door. useless for carparks and everyday use. take one standard door and cut out 150mm from the centre. modify the outer skin to fit the new sized inner. etched with 120 grit , ready for etch primering and filler. same done to the other door , but with the added bonus of a mazada mx 5 door handle sunk in. flush with the outer skin. obviously keyless , going to be central locking system.

side doors held in place to see how they look. more user friendly than a 1 meter side door. door jam created to allow the other door to lock ont it and seal properly . the recess allows the use of the original locking mechanisam . not too much filler to bring it smooth.

Very good, read the original thread and was impressed anyway. The MX5 handles look the part, they're a real nice design i think.

Fantastic work, and dare I say it done to a better level than a lot of original custom vans from back in the day. Twin side doors rock, having had both configurations on vans over the years I prefer them for everyday use, the only bonus of a single swing side door is as a wind break... Keep on it. What's the final look you're going for? Murals? Whip aerials, more subtle? Is it going to have a name? Am I getting too excited... ;D

hi bryn , plans for the van are , transit mk1/2 flared arches ( pictures coming up) , woolfies all round , fronts to be 175/60/14. possibly gonna use the thrush sidepipes i have. saab indigo metalic blue paint work , side doors to have the window panels filled in , heart shaped portholes in the rear panels. no murals ( not as yet) if i can find an air brush artist i do have a mural id like on the rear door , but the artist would have to be absolute a star for him to touch my van. no whip aerials . now as to a name , i quite like vandaemonium . now maybe I'm getting too excited . lol. thanks for the comments. much appreciated. ade

wowswers, this is looking good. I think I'd missed the thread on this te first time round after a few posts. Looks like its coming on great. I especially like the double door conversion. You need a single door on the back though!
a 3.08 rear will be great with a V8. I have a 3.08 in my Buick and it can rip the rubber well enough. gears in the 2s are less entertaining.

I'm just hoping that my chevy 305 will at least smoke the tyres.

rear arches , subtle flarings. transit mk1/2 lwb arches , these have had about two inches taken out of them to shorten them. rotton front headlamp mountings off the 71 van, replacement panels made to match. replacement steps made to replace the rotton ones . all panels folded with the metal folder from machine fart. must expect some rust on the van ,well it does have FORD in its name. lol
