i always planned to make my garage bigger, even before i'd bought the house! anyway i bought the materials and made plans a year ago, and didn't do it due to the winter. Spent all summer doin fun stuff so only just got round to it. slightly annoying as i couldn't use the garage as it was full of timber! started last friday, old felt was off friday afternoon, no before pics but you can imagine i'm sure, the old joists spanned only the garage, so new joists were required to span the new girth. There has been an extension already some time to add some length. i'm kind of making it up as i go along, using internet/building control officers/timber merchant staff etc to guide me. Seems to be working so far! with a lot of help from friends and me mum i managed to get a huge amount done last weekend, today i glued the new roof covering on today, still lots to do but 7mx3.5m (less a corner) garage here i come ;D and while i was on the roof with camera, i couldnt help myself....

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

I did one of my folks barn's floors with some kangos like that - it really is a lot of hard work, so for the next one, I have wangled one of these for £50 for the weekend! I love working in the hire industry sometimes! ;D Your garage is looking great though, it will be worth it in the end! Rysz.

i needed one of those!!! heres how its looking now, all old concrete is broken up and the whole floor dug out to 350-400mm below final floor level, my body is broken, but it is worth it. shifted 2 skips worth of earth etc, over 10 tons of the stuff Mike

Excellent work dude. It will all be worth it when you have a cosy garage to twirl the spanners in. Personally I was lucky enough to be able to choose the bone idle option and pay someone else to do the graft for me!

Put a pit in - you know it makes sense, especially while the floor is up.

I thought about a pit in mine, but my brother had one in his garage and it was more of a hinderence than a help, so he filled it in. Causes all sorts of issues with damp and flooding etc too. Not saying don't do it, but think it through properly and get some advice from a builder/architect if you do want to go that way.

i'm not putting a pit in, yes it would be nice for maybe a few jobs a year, but i'm used to not having one and with only one "bay" to work in i think it would hinder more than help.
And then there are the issues with building the thing right, added cost and time.
Had a builder round tonight to quote to finish the job off now i have done the hard stuff. Quote will come back tomorrow but i know i'm looking at £400 worth of readymix straight off :-(

Nice looking extension mate and nice mK1 too. Did you need planning permission to join the garage to the house or not? Got any more pics of the roof, from the rear of the house. Am intersted to see how you did the bit over the angled door. Also, are you gonna use your old bricks to brick up the wooden dor at the front of the house or keep it for easy access? Sorry, a lot of questions but am looking to build a garage myself.
