I like all the electronicy stuff on engines, it makes em go faster while using less juice, and with the much better manufacturing they use building them these days they last oodles longer on average I could go for an LS1 or similar for these very reasons, because its a fairly conventional architecture. If it was going in a retro car it would be running a carb conversion and a regular type distributor though... cost of parts for a lot of modern engines and cost of parts for the conversion could outweigh any savings in fuel efficiency etc. Depends on the engine I guess. Take the LS1 or LS2 for example. 345 and 400 BHP respectively (from memory). You can build a 350 BHP SBC 350 for a fraction of the price of fitting a LS1 to an old school car.... And then the cost of tuning an LS1 after that? Ouch. But if I were going down this route and money were no object then I guess I would be doing what all the protouring guys are doing and putting an LS2 (better still an LS9) into a '69 Camaro. I did think about a "high tech" conversion for my Cadillac. The Northstar is all wrong for it, the car is too heavy and too much of a cruiser for all that 32 valve malarky, but an LQ4 V8 out of an Escalade would be just the trick. I've one of these built in the US in a mag and got 472 BHP out of it which is conicidentally the ci displacement of the old big block from the late 60s YO! granted the first thing they did was replace the EFI with a carb and the ECU with a distributor but I'll bet you could use one of the aftermarker ECU/injection systems and generate the same power. probably at a far greater cost, but even the carb version is way too spendy for me.

my idea of a perfect match would be this: linkyC36GET is a Lotus Carlton engine (3.6L Twin turbo/380ish bhp) in an Opel manta, which weighs about as much as.. well, a c36GET engine actually i think it'd be great, cornering might be tricky though

I'd stick one of the modern LS/LT V8's into a BMW e28/e24/e9 most likely. A modern, mass-produced lightweight American V8 sounds (at least on paper) like a great recipe for a Euro muscle car, kinda best of both worlds really - retro look and the handling of a BMW coupled to years of evolution of American engine... nice, no?
Karoshi, would it not be easier to stick a SAAB turbo in a Manta? We'll see how PPC are doing with their Saab powered Escort, so far it sounds like a LOT of fabrication but I guess that's to be expected, want to see how they get along.

that Modular engine will be an interesting fit in the Mk3. You seen how feckin WIDE they are? Theres a lad sometimes comes on here called Dave who has one he is trying to fit into a Capri mk3. I kow that on a lot of YANK cars you have to move the struts out to fit one. Blimey.
Thats a lot of work for a 221 BHP engine (260 BHP for a PI version and 300 BHP for the SN197 all-alloy version)

I'd have one of these General Electric GE90-115B gas turbine engines which are rated at 123,000 pounds of thrust (which is aprox 150,000bhp depending on how you measure these things) mounted in one of these. but you can have first go. Pod-racer anyone?
