Hi All I originally bought this car about 15 years ago when I needed an auto because of back problems , since then it's been an ongoing fight against rust and some 'slight' mods for various reasons. It started as a rolling restoration with the usual problems but when I came to the rear quarter it had to come off the road.I knew that it had been hit before I got it but didn't realize how bad it was so started to knock off filler - this is what I ended up with ( it's a good job I'm a welder ) and to think my daughters seat belt was attached to this. I had been looking for parts for a few years before I started and had a rear quarter panel , the panel at the front of the wheel arch and had got some sills made up. The original 2ltr engine was smoking when I got the car and I found out that the 18R engine was the only one that Toyota did that wasn't compatible with unleaded , so as we ( me and my dad ) were restoring a pair of MS63 CROWN estates and had a spare 4M 2.6 straight six engine I decided to fit that together with a 3spd + o/d auto gearbox from a later CROWN. These engine's were fitted to these car's so I knew it would fit I just had to make up some mounts and an exhaust. It's also fitted with the rear axle from a later RX60 with some adjustable air shocks. I'm in the process of rebuilding another 4M with all new internals I've managed to find over the last 7 or 8 years I've got hold of some alloys that I'm refirbing to go on once I've finished the body and got the paint ( that's sitting under the stair's ) on it finally . What do you think with a gloss black car ? And to think I've got a two door version as well !! Adam

Looks like with that amount of metal missing/having to be cut out, you've got quite the project on your hands! I'm dead keen to see pictures of the 2door!

Thanks for the comments. It already runs a 4M it has been for about 5 years but it's smoking badly ( almost as much oil as petrol ) Which why I thought it about time to do something about it and tidy the bay up at the same time The original seats were getting a bit tired with some broken springs so I fitted a pair of electrically adjustable and heated seats from a Granada I had lying around , together with the air shocks it soaks everything up but it rolls a-bit on corners ( especially if I've just jumped out of the Granada cosworth that I run around in ). Should I put the pics and details of the 2Dr on here or a new thread ? RMAD I'm based in the midlands

Hi all Just a bit of a quick update : I've virtually finished the rebuild on the engine , it's a 2.6 4M Along with the exhaust manifold I've been playing with Virtually everything is new , the only original parts are the block , head and covers , the crankshaft and the idle shaft everything else has been replaced - I've been picking the bit's up for the last five year's. The only thing left is I've got to use the rocker shaft's out of the engine in the car at the moment ( new rocker's waiting to go on ) , finish the exhaust ( I've got some heat wrap for it ) made to fit the car and then clean up the gearbox I've got to go with it. It should be ( touch wood ) a case of one engine and box out and the new one in. After that I can get on with the body and paint - I've got some gloss black waiting to go on. Adam

Bit of an update Finally found a bit of time to start doing the engine bay and engine swap. When I was removing the engine I found that the front cross-member / frame was in need of some repair , so did that while I got the engine bay painted Here's the first fit , I managed to tidy up the bay area. I'll carry on tomorrow Adam

Thanks.
It's only a 2.6 6 cyl , these engines were fitted as standard to the CROWN's ( next model up - we have 2 , which is were this came from , then rebuilt )and to some models of the cressida's abroad. The original engine that was fitted to this was a 2.0 4 cyl which looked lost and was under powered when I was towing and couldn't run on unleaded without a lot of work.
I also have one of the 2.6 MX32 cressida's which is a Japanese home market car.
I've spent the day plumbing everything in but when you've got water radiator , engine oil cooler , auto box cooler and power steering cooler it get a bit long winded - I'm just glad it hasn't got air con as well like my other one.
