I had my Planet X out of the garage for some repairs today and thought I'd take some photos to show you guys... There you go. It's a Planet X Bommer frame with Knifen forks (geddit? I didn't realise for ages!). I built it up a few years back for general use - long(ish) rides, commuting and the like. It's built to a purpose and to suit my riding hence the slightly wierd set up. I guess the best summary is that it's a long distance bike for someone forgets he's not on a BMX - it goes fast, but can take the hits. Detail:

Kinda new skool but old skool style, but MTB, yet like BMX! pretty much my fleet in one bike! Nice, I see those Jack Flash frames get good reviews for their diversity, is this a lot different?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I've probably had this for about 5 years now, as MTBs have got more BMX-like this has become more fashionable, but that's luck rather than judgement. As an all rounder it's pretty good, it jumps well, gets from A to B when needed and doesn't break. You can see from the detail pics that the quality of the frame is awesome in both design and manufacture.

Thats one thing thats been confusing me recently, now you mention it. rmad, I know what you mean, go look for a new bike now and this is the current style, frames that look jumpy orientated. Trend you could call it but the bar has been raised for most types of MTB riding these days. Even a lot of the XC bikes are a bit smaller and tougher now. I moved away from big 'gates' with fragile componentry and nose down geometry, in the 90's and back onto BMX, for a bit. After spotting the merge of tougher bikes with smaller frames and chain devises+less gears in the early 2000's, I picked up my first half BMX, half MTB Identiti in a 2002/3, then a better specced one in 2004. Of course the choice now is sooooo vast. *dribble* Yours looks simple like it will get the job done no matter what and cause little hassle, from what gofasterpinch was saying, could already be a classic...

Planet X/On ones ride very nicely as well! (ps your chain looks a little on the long side ;D) bikes have merged AND diversified - e.g. this is my one bike for everything MTB related - DH, XC, Trail Centres and general messing about - a few years ago (well with risers) this would have been a full on DH/Jump rig :-) Different drivetrain now as that one was wrecked!

yup 456, racing ralphs are brilliant in 2.4" size, but aint that great in mud - not enough tread profile.
Are you on STW, that pic rings a bell!

Very nice Been looking at a lot of Planet X / On one stuff lately, as I am going to bite the bullet and buy an On-One Pompino Fixie for road use ;D My Norco is similar style and it pretty much does everything I want, great to play on, jumps well, can ride it uphill and hammer back down again.... oh and its pretty bullet proof as well..... But I will always have a soft spot for Steel frames, I just love the way they ride Have to get my 17" P7 built up I think ;D

I saw a Charge which looked very cool:

charge plugs are a nice build, but the frames are supposed to be quite heavy for what they are

do it, what parts do you need? Its just frame and forks at the moment so its a full build..... tempted to go singlespeed but not sure at the moment Keep looking for complete bikes on Ebay to strip and build into the P7 but they are all going for too much money really..... The Norco does everything I want off road, the weight keeps me fit ;D jumps well, and its bullet proof The Pomp will sort my road bike out and I`ll sell my other roadie/hybrid too... What bits have you got available then ?

Erm, lots and none really
I think:
cranks bottom bracket 24/7 stem and bars - tatty, very heavy but bombproof couple of frames :-) 30.0 seatpost couple of front mech's seat clamp front hub newish tyres xc stem shifters (somewhere) rh shifter on its own brake levers
probably some other stuff :-)

Only just seen this thread, we really should get a RR ride going. I've just finished building (bodging) an On One 456 together as a winter hack & quite suprised how well it rides for a cheap bike. Currently patiently waiting for my new 'best bike' to arrive..

cheap! mine is expensive enough for my liking. although mines alloy not steel. sensibly priced i would say! sack off paying £500+ for a hardtail frame.
