To those in the know, what cheap reasonably pokey engines will go into a Riva with little fuss? Are they easily lowered? Do they have racks or boxes? And for your efforts....

Fiat twink is a pretty easy swap requiring i think only a modded sump, although if you can find a fiat 131 it pretty much all goes straight in. I ran this set up with an arbath 5 speed in my FSO pickup and they are very similar. Got a spare box here if you find you want to go that route.

Aah, meant to say, other than a fiat twink!, thanks for the offer though. Was thinking something more like a zetec or redtop etc. don't suppose the later alfa twin spark engines fit the twink rwd box do they???

steering box's unfortunatley,,,,,,,,,,but they're not that bad
lowering via chopped springs (this gives negative camber at the front) rear suspension is quite well setup (five link live axle) but the stock springs are really soft
could go for a fiat 16v engine (i guess it bolt's up but may be a faff dealing with clutches spigot bearing etc)
i have seen lancia intergrale turbo motors fitted too

My brother put a 2.0 redtop into his rally Riva, mated to a Ford Type-9 gearbox. He's on here as Avtovaz, I'll point him at this thread when I can. His build thread is here : www.zsiguli.hu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=487

rover/ford v8 small blocks fit the hole (the clutch master cylinder would need moved (verticaly?)and sumps modified in the main) but is possible
vuax xe's share the same bellhousing pattern as post 94 saab turbo engines

it was from a vauxhall omega . It all worked well but the car is now in ireland with out the xe...
BTW lowering the front dosnt give neggy camber.
FIat twinks do fit straight in, even the sump, engine mounts the lot, only the clutch is different and there is a slight starter issue as the fiat one is on the other side.
