Right. Four of us are off to Germany for a fortnight in August. We're looking at hiring a car to get us and our luggage there, tour round for the two weeks, and return home. I've been looking at things like Laguna Estates, Mondeos etc etc which would do the job.
BUT, they cost about £700 which is steep, especially when you have to give the car back at the end.
Can you see where I'm going with this?
Any suggestions for something retro, that you could buy for around £700, that'd do maybe 3000miles without worry AND carry four people and their luggage?
How much for a Volvo Estate? 700 or 900 series? Opel Omega? Old Mercedes?
Aircon and cheap insurance would be a brucey bonus ;D
I don't know if I'm asking the impossible, but it's an interesting challenge if nothing else!
LOTS of pics please!

volvo 700 series ... very comfortable and you'd get a really good one for the sort of money you are talking.

I think something like a MKV tina estate or MK2 granny estate should fit the bill admirably

RWD Volvos are gorgeous cruisers, very spacious, very comfortable, even over huge distances (when I picked the LWB 960 up, I drove all night, stopping only for a mandatory stop, you know, when I was out of petrol, cans of coke, and polo mints, that sort of thing, ;D, I went for over 420 miles almost without getting out of the motor, and I felt as though I had just gone down the shops in it! ) and as long as they're not totally neglected, they'll last for ever reliably so you should have no bother going on holiday in it, I have fond memories from when I was a kid of going on holiday in my dad's Volvos, which weren't new cars even then, and the never caused any problems. Ever. At all!

I'm with Tonycocacola - Mercedes W123, preferably estate, preferably 280 straight six, although I would do long distance in any of the models I reckon. You can pick a half decent one up for £700 if you try hard enough, and it'll just keep on rolling.... ;D
