Well, i managed to score a load of nice wood from my work! its structural grade TR26 roof truss grade that was used as the top and bottom chord of some metal web joists that we were testing at work It is all fairly rough cut, so i started by using my electric plane and planing .5 mm of all four sides. i have also designed the bed in autocad, and will post some pics up tomorrow. I have now started to make the first end of the bed. I am using mortice and tennon joists. that is the start, I expect it to take about a month on and off to make it! Lewis

here is my cad drawing of basically what i want it to be like the lower rectangle in the bottom bit is the base for a seat/sofa, and the higher bit with the curve in it is a small desk. The parts i am making first are two uprights for one end. here is a more simple view with less stuff. and some details of the joints. I am going to make the two ends and glue them together etc, but leave the long rails that support the matress loose so that the bed can be moved! Flatpack style!! btw i am watching New Yankee Workshop right now. It gets me slightly hard

Well a bit more stuff to show. This is the jig i use to cut the mortices and the router a tennon inserting needs some fettling but works ok here is a mockup of one of the ends here are the pockets for the long runners that support the matress here is how the runners will fit, with some long bolts to hold it in place quite tall!!! so, this end needs to be glued up and finished, and the other end made, then we can get on to make the matress support.

make sure you can dismantle it and rebuild it inside as I doubt that will fit through the door

Well just an update.
I finished making this end then tried to get it upstairs to makre sure it would fit....
FAIL!
I then just so happened I spotted a metal study bed on freecycle in good nick, so a nabbed that instead!
So the bed plans are cancelled. Never mind, i still enjoyed messing about with wood.
I will use the remainder of the wood to build a car port.
Request will be going into the coucil an a week or so, so will start knocking that up soon!

;D I made a big fugging bed all angular and stuff, made out of a lot of Melamine shelving and chip board and like permanently shaped/glued/installed in my old room at my mums when I lived there briefly. And now she wants a nice neutral guest room i'm gonna have to chop it up ;D Pics and thread coming soon.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
