Hi all... it's Sunday nite and, two weeks from now, on Sept. 22nd, I'm flying off to collect my Lada Signet. I'm calling it my "birthday present" as I'm turning 43 on Sept. 19th. Anyone know of an Internet site that keeps track of the car brands registered in a particular country? Sometime ago someone on the Honda Civic wagon forum said he had access to similar info for the US... Just wondering. Cheers !!

I have a 1986 Lada Signet I drive in Toronto. So far, my Soviet era Lada Signet is the only one of its kind on this city's roads. This one my dad bought and never let go, despite intense criticism over the years. I have just taken up this vehicular challenge so I'm interested in keeping up with your trials up there in Winnipeg.

Wow, that's great to hear !! Any chance of seeing a pic of your Commie Car ?? My first Lada was an '86 that I bought used in '87 for about 3K. Ya, I get criticism about my Lada, usually from ignorant people, so I just ignore them. Don't let anyone EVER tell you what you "should" be driving. I believe our choice in vehicles is an extention of our personality... so driving a Lada shows that someone is unconventional. BTW, The Lada made it safely from Calgary to Winnipeg with ZERO breakdowns and only 2 carburetor hiccups, one solved itself after a bit of bucking... and engine power loss.. and the other was solved by filling up. LOL Cheers !!

Cool car, sounds like it's going to be an interesting drive back for you. Fingers crossed it works out ok The drive back was uneventful, aside from the carb acting up a couple times. My son and I drove back, tacking turns behind the wheel. We stayed overnite in the El Rancho Motel in Medicine Hat. Very retro but the room and beds were very clean. The shag carpet had been cleaned that day !!! Anyhow, the first thing I did to the Lada was swap in a Weber carb. Wow, what a difference in power. Gas consumption is up but I'm sure I can tinker with the carb settings until I get it just right. I recently purchased a house with a heated garage so I'm looking forward to setting up a decent workshop in which to tinker with my Lada !! I have a connection in Hungary that can get me all the Lada parts my heart desires. So far I've received all the missing or broken interior trim pieces I need to bring the interior back up to spec. I've also ordered new pistons for the hatch so I can stop using an old broom handle to keep it open. I also got my hands on a genuine Lada block heater for those cold Canadian winters. ;D Anyhow, the first thing I want to do is remove the dealer installed roof rack so I can start working on the paint. I want to install a 4X4 roof rack to give the Lada more presence. LOL I also want to install a decent radio, as well as an antenna... as I currently don't have one. I'm thinking of tapping the clock for radio power. Why you ask? 'Cause right now the radio is powered by the defrost on only workls if the defrost switch is "on". A bit of a pain.

A recent study shows that 92% of all people have converted to emo/goth. Put this in your sig if you're one of the 8% who stayed gangsta as f*ck

Crikey. I never knew the Ruskies had invaded that far either. Can't wait for the road trip story! It's not that far from Russia if you go the 'wrong' way round!
