............so did I I had the seats out of the Cortina this afternoon, to give it a thorough valet lifted the carpets and found this; N/S/F not too bad, but still solid and N/S/R solid too, full of sand again though O/S/F after dragging the vacuum nozzle over the dust and grit, I was left with this – and no doubt when the soundproofing is removed, there will be worse rot to report O/S/R – not too bad weldathon required before Blackpool Ford day PAGING MR. SCARY ;D

besides, your car is 25, my van is almost 30... I had to do more extensive welding than that on an 8 year old Punto last week after Failing Its Annual Test

I found this under the drivers seat of a Beetle I was driving; Note the particularly weedy ruber mallet, I have no idea what was holding this together. Dave.

Bedford CF. Rot already cut out and some welding started but you get the idea! Doing a similar thing on the wife's London taxi at the moment too!

sold my mk1 escort with both front floorpans disconected from the sills all the way along (i did tell and show the guy and he was happy with it for the money) still cant believe how much a partially stripped rusty floored 2 door mk1 escort is worth nowadays! this is after he poked all the loose stuff out of the drivers side.

I know the feeling well. That horrible sinking feeling when you peel back the carpet and sound deadening to reveal a load of crust and daylight.
Still, I don't mind floors that much - the panels are usually pretty flat so fabbing up repair sections is easy.

When you work on a production line you have only just enough time to do the job (the time and motion w@nkers see to that). This results in a bare minimum 'that'll do' mentality, which is what I've always blamed inconsistent rustproofing/paint on.

funny how some cars go and some don't, my cortina has never had any welding on the floor at all. the problem with my cortina stems from living near the sea most of its life this is what it looked like last year before sills and inner sills were replaced, note the beach i found under the rotten carpet
