have decided that I really fancy another one as i'm hankering for my youth spent thrashing one to death as my first car. while that was a 205xe (all 950cc of powah!!) I fancy something like a 205xs now, but I can hardly find anything between boggo spec models, and GTI's. so dear RR's, as my google-fu is still in france on holiday, could anyone direct me to any decent places to look?? and have some pug porn for your trouble

Nowt wrong with base models. Less electrical stuff to go wrong! My 1.1 is very nippy round town due to it weighing only 740kg (in comparison, a Peugeot 306 weighs 1060kg), giving 74bhp/ton. It uses virtually no fuel either. Only downside is the 4 speed gearbox, which can be a bit annoying on motorways.
All models are galvanised, so rust isn't a problem, they handle like they're on rails, and they're dirt cheap. Go for it!

Some gorgeous 205's out there, would love a 1.9 GTI, but can't justify the insurance The Dimma kits are relatively to get hold of these days aswell, would look good with so deep dish wheels. Now where's the kleenex..

205 XS is the cut price daddy!
1.4 and a twin choke carb with a really low ratio'd box - they absolutely fly, especially after 3k rpm!
Early models where not galvanised as well as later models.
Full GTi style trim in there and just sublime to drive! I really miss mine.
Rysz.

same here, i would love a blue or a green 1.9gti and a few select mods (cream leather with body colour piping, slight lowering, possibly some different 16" alloys, and a MI16 engine) alas, living in the English equivalent of iraq (thats sunderland to you boys and girls!!) my dreams of owing a GTI and parking on a main road are pratically nil! i'd give you a present of a green GTI, but alas my google-fu has failed again

Oh yes please!!!!!1!
The 205 love is strong at the moment. I am looking for a nice GTi to use as a back-roads blaster. Much fun (1.9 in Miami blue, Mmmmmm, heavenly)
Loved my 1.1 I had a few years back, even though you had to wring the nads off it ;D My dad's 1.4 with a 5-speed is much more civilised and pretty dang nippy too.
Do it.

meh, i had much fun trashing the nuts off my 950, i got it to do 100mph once (down hill on the way to chester from northwich)
i trashed CV joints, driveshafts, exhausts, alternators, even got through a set of 135 tyres in 6000 miles and have to put 155's on at that point. for most of itsl ife the stereo was worth way more than the car, but it was a cracking car.
went out to look at a 1.1 trio recently, but someone has butchered both the door locks and both doors frames looked like they had been pulled in and out with big creases on the inside of the frame near the bottom of the window.

I never got on with my 205 1.1 - the build quality left a lot to be desired - the bonnet felt like it was made of well, felt. Handled well up to about 30 then got scary. Made alarming noises over 75 (possibly the speedo on hindsight) final nail was when it failed to start on a cold boxing day mornng - the hall effect dizzy had died - no scrappys had one, I cubed it. did about a million to the gallon though

LOL, mine went around any corner on its door handles, but i remember dealing out a thrashing to a mate in a 1.3 polo who had just passed his iam, and i was the one who stayed on the right side of the road!!
build quality, well i always reckoned that the 205 was quilt like a fag packet, and the Citroen AX was akin to a crisp packet
cant remember if mine had something else die (HG?) or weather i just wanted something faster, i ended up with a rover 114sli for some reason!

The 1.4 engine which is in the XS is the same as in the standard 1.4's. Its just the cabs which are different I believe.
I'm currently looking at converting my 1.4 GR to either Bike carbs ona home made manifold or slapping teh carb and turbo from a R5GTT on there until it dies

XS = Ali block TU3S engine, the same as in the AX GT, so it has a lumpier cam and a twin choke Solex carb as well. This means that it makes 85bhp as standard instead of 70bhp (or 75bhp in the Rallye's), That engine came in the XS, XT, GT and Roland Garros.
