I've been discussing hot rod styles with conor (my son) and he's really interested in the drop tank style of racer, trouble is I'm having difficulty finding pics. Google have given me a few, like but I have a feeling that there are many, better pics to be found He has an idea, which is to build a drop tank style body by sectioning and chopping 45 gal oil drums to make a half scale (maybe electric, maybe small bike engined) tot-rod. I think its kinda interesting as a plan... thoughts?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

The journey of 1000 miles starts with a single coffee.
I don't like coffee!

ps, isn't that the same car again from a different angle? Yep. Old Crow belly tank made recently from all old genuine parts. 'Twas featured in Rodders Journal a couple of issues ago. www.oldcrowspeedshop.com/Looks like they've taken it to B-ville after a stay in Amsterdam courtesy of Tommy Hilfiger....

They're extremely cool, actually I've been sketching up ideas for one for the last week or so myself! I'm not scary's son though! Was re-reading a Garage Magazine feature on the old crow belly tank just the other day too........
Get to it I say, where to getcthe tank from though? Domestic hotwater cylinders are just too small though

Maybe we should drag the concept in to the 21st century and start building them out of old missile casings? Assuming the yanks haven't used them all up on fake terrorists and threats on thier oil national security

'Lakesters' is another good key word. A heap of period shots can be found here (along with all the other styles for his continued education) www.ahrf.com/gallery.php

I doubt you'd manage a scale version. I've sat in a couple, they're tiny inside as it is, make one much smaller and you'd struggle to get in.
Still do it though, would be immense.
