On the subject of Mk3 Fezzers: On display at a Classic Car show over the last Bank Holiday. This car was SERIOUSLY mint. There were those looking quizzically at it before they realised it was 17 years old.

Definitely a future classic. Yes it may have been the Series Two's weedy little brother, but almost anyone my age would have had one. At least till they could afford the insurance on an Escort

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

A mates neighbours, OAP's, in their 80's have one that was in similar condition but have started to let it slide, the arches and boot lid are getting a bit scabby now but its one owner from new, always garaged K reg, only use a few times a week, etc Were hoping they wont go down the root of part ex it or scrap it for nothing and replace it with something brand new. If a for sale sign every pops into it were going to have it but unfortunatley they don't have a good enough neighbourly relationship to get first refusal on it or approach them about it.

There were those looking quizzically at it before they realised it was 17 years old. It might be 17 years old, but it's no classic. Even in mint condition, it's still pretty worthless. They haven't risen from the banger stakes yet, and won't for at least another 10 years IMHO. I drive a 1990 Peugeot 205 as my daily - a competitor to the Fiesta. Do I consider it a classic? No. It's only done 40,000 miles from new, and is pretty clean, but that's beside the point - it's still worthless and undesirable, just like a 1990/91 Fiesta of any description.

I tried an RS1800 for a few months to get over my hatred of FWD, it didnt work, horrible plasticy badly built rattley interior combined with not being able to exit a junction at an sort of reasonable speed just annoyed me, I'm guessing the turbo is even worse.
As rwd cars get rarer then older fwd fords will get classic status, but most of these youngsters don't know what they missed, even if these cars are more powerfull with more gadgets than we ever had i still feel sorry for em growing up after rwd had lost its dominance.

even though a standard RST/RS1800 would hand its to a standard mk1/2 escort RS/Mexico. Matt maybe up the motorway, but not down the lanes it wouldnt, i used to regulally be able to beat my mate home from work (long as it wasnt raining) in my mk1 mex (better handling than an RS2000 due to its lighter engine) and he had a 200bhp 4x4 celica, fiestas do handle, but not like an old escort does.

To whoever said that ebay fiesta 1.1 is worthless. Look at the link. It's going to sell at way over £600. Why's that? Because people can see it's potential, whether that's as a future classic or reliable daily car. It's madness to say it has on value just because it's a "normal" car.

They'll become classics simply by virtue of age, not because of any inherent greatness. The Mk3 Fiesta XR's and RS's were never the best looking, the best handling, the cheapest, the best equipped, the fastest, the smoothest or the most desirable amongst any of their peers. There are some late 80s/early 90s hot hatches that are destined for greatness and are pretty much there, but the Mk3 Fiesta isn't one of them... An owners club, forum and club display at shows (I'm assuming there are such things) do not a "Classic" make I worked at a Ford dealer when they were new and drove loads and loads of them and hated them. Noisy, rough, unrefined, stodgy - a 205 is light years ahead - but my opinion has mellowed since. If this was a thread about non-Cosworth Mk5 Escorts though I'd be unleashing a whole torrent of abuse ;D

Definitely will become classics but not yet. As said the rarity of the RS1800 and RS Turbo models will propel them to classic status first followed by the XR2i 1.6 then the XR2i 1.8, then lesser models like the 1.6 Sport, and then the Si models then the bottom end stuff. They are dying very quick;y as they rust around the fuel filler and valances due to Ford not giving them proper bumpers on lesser models. My K reg 1.1 carb ( ) is in alot better condition than many mk4's let alone mk3's, its not mint by any means but no rot One only has to look at the prices mint versions of the sporty mk3's fetch to see that they are becoming more and more sort after

Sorry for my mistake before (re: Fiestas). My post was referring to this one and not the blue one pictured above. £525 is about the price it's worth with 12M MOT, given a scrap value of £200 bangernomics.tripod.com/bangval.htmIt's only got 3M MOT, so it's overpriced via that model, but not that much - after all, it is clean, and will probably pass another MOT: It's still in the bounds of cheap old banger pricing, rather than classic car pricing.

So where does classic car pricing start? As "usually" a Fiesat of that age would struggle to sell for £250 I think there's something about this one. Not sure a MK3 Fester would be worth £200 scrap either, more likely £80.
