well progress has been slow recently, hampered by the lack of a runnign motor to get me back and forth to the units. bought this lil beasty the other day tho just a lil runaround but going to stick the OZ routes on there and a brand new remus exhaust thats for the lupolo but itll go back on when its ready fitted the lupo engine today, was on my own but still managed it mainly thanks for a trusty 3 tonne low loader jack that managed to beast the car into the air. probably slightly unsafe with the lack of axle stands but job was a good un Still need to bolt the rear gearbox mount, just needs jacking up from the back now the car is back on all wheels. Next job is to assess if i can use a mk3 alternator with the gti alternator pulley. w00t

Cool, my Father had a Polo (red UFR 526R) don't suppose it still exists now! Nice to see one of these (or even 2!) receiving some love and attention!

Thanks for the info, we must have traded it in about 1980/81. I remember it sat in the VW dealers yard for what seemed like a long time after we traded it in. It was replaced by a white VW Derby which was either BRM 142T or BRM 146T. I can never remember which was which the Derby or my Uncle's David Brown tractor! The Derby was in turn traded in at the same dealer about 1983 for a Fiat 131 Supermirafiori, hence my username! The dealer was Lightfoots in Carlisle. Their city centre branch is now Iceland and the other outlet Wickes!

Awh man derbys are even cooler than there bootless counterparts! Glad to see that you guys owned one! I don't know what a miniflora is but its making me hungry, infact just googled it and its mad to say the least! not a patch on the derby tho =] but i am more than a little biased!
The taking over of the garages by retail plottage is a true sign of the age of these cars! I think the silver one was sold by some vw place in boston, hopefully its still there as it would be nice to take it to its uk birth place. aw tracksport and the 2nd previous owner who comissioned allt he work are in lincoln too so it would be cool to visit them all!

cheers dude, the front wishbone setup is akin to the salzmann subframes which are renowned for super quality and ride handling. the lupo shocks and springs should be interesting, i may end up replacing them with a regular polo hnr cup kit as ive been in a subframed hnr kitted 200bhp eaton g40 and it handled like it truely was on rails

Well this has been taking up most of my time lately  Model: 1989 Coupe S Engine: 1272cc 8v - MH Suspension:Standard Shocks \ Springs Wiechers TCA Brace Brakes: 239mm Discs w/ VW1 Calipers + Std Rear Drums Wheels and Tyres: 14 x 7 OZ Routes + 195/45/14 Pirelli's Exterior Styling: Homebrew Rear Light Tints similar to Late Mk3 Spec Removed Rub Strips Remus Exhaust Interior Styling: Schroth Harnesses with Safety Devices Pre-Tensioners Black Seats with Yellow Checkers ICE and Security: Cat 2 Alarm / Immobiiser, ICE used to be my ipod now I've upgraded to a donated mp3 from a mate and two poop std rear speakers =D Comments:Bought this car off Lucy as a daily runaboutu while i finished the engine conversion on my previous daily which failed on me =[ . The car was previously owned by Manked Out now Blug on the forums, a good friend of mine and he was pleased to see the car coming back to manchester. Previous owner to that was a gentleman named Ade, who now has a scooby powered T4 bus =D Anyway the little Coupe S is on 115k, The Car runs sweet as a nut, as was absolutely faultless bar misfiring and loss of power on sporadic random occasions. I decided the best course of action was a mini service, new Spark Plugs / Leads / Oil Change / Oil & Air Filter, still didnt solve it. So next step was to rule out the Hall Sender. Got a known working MH dizzy off Manked Out and still the misfire would rear its head. I could always get to my destination as 2 minutes idle time and we were good to go again. After taking the airbox off, we cleaned out the oil breather pod, replaced a few vacuums and reinstalled the previously missing exhaust heatsheild, as the current ducting just wasnt feeding enough warm air into the carb. After getting the heatsheield on thanks to Karl all is good, its a mk1 polo one at the moment, will stick a mk2 one soon as the outlet hole is the same diamter as m y current tubing but it seems like the problems resolved. I've done about 2k miles in it since I've owned it and loving every minute Fitting very soon.256mm Discs G60 Front Calipers G40 Steering Damper G40 Tie Rods G40 TCAs PPS Subframe Future PlansTCA->ARB Polybushes Rear GT Axle (Paint up & Rebuild with 200mm Passat Drums) Refit Rear Axle with New Axle Bushes Fit Tartan Recaros GT Engine possibly or Twin Choke Weber Your Input is appreiciated =D As she stood as i bought her Rocking Tear drops and mk1 polo chrome bumpers On OZ routes but std bumpers back on As she stands, rub strips now off Probably shouldn't have bought these  but whatdyaknow this is the rather fetching subframe that should probably transform the handling on the car, plus give me a feel for what a subframed polo feels likes for when i get the lupolo on a track

Looks better with the plastic bumpers back on. The Mk1 bumpers didn't fit very well IMO.

Where does that subframe mount to the car surely it can't all hang off the 2 plates towards the bottom of the photo. Why is the horizontal bar at the top ajustable too, when the 2 vertical bars are welded so shouldn't move.

Matt the brace is adjustable so you can fit it with the exhaust in situ, otherwise you have to remove the exhaust to fit the subframe which isnt ideal but do-able. the front mounts are the old front arb mounting points, and the rear are part of the shell and are the inner track control arm mounts.

The Mk1 bumpers didn't fit very well IMO. cheers, i think that aswell, i thought i would try and it and see how they looked, i didnt think they would fit persoanlly, if they were bigger it would work, but with the polo mk2 never being graced with much chrome it looked out of place

Yeah plastic bumpers look far better. You plannin to lower them? yep, the front of the lupolo is already lowered on modified lupo struts, shocks and springs, the rear may be fitted with golf mk1 colies with a custome poundage springs. the coupe s is getting a 70/60mm HnR Cup Kit, its actualy 60 60 with 10mm lowering top caps, but should sit well. The kit will probably make its way onto the lupolo eventually, which is why i justified the extra expensve of buying these over a budget lowering kit, and the ride on HnR suspension is impeccable =]
