After having to scrap my Volvo 360 (see here) retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=39172&page=1I was left without a car and needed one ASAP hence me buying this wagon for 400 notes from my gaffer. I'm not really sure if it classifys as retro but it sure is ugly lol! Its the 1.9 diesel (non-turbo! ) and came with 70,000 miles and tax and test. However it is without a doubt the worst car I have ever driven lol, very slow and sluggish and the handling is shocking! (worse than my Mk3 astra and they're known for being boats) I can't seem to leave any of my cars standard so the plan is to lower it on cut springs as much as is healthy (i.e as much as possible ) and have the steelies done in gloss black. Any comments welcome

I've tried a couple of these out and they're decent things to drive, certainly a lot more appealing than an Astra.

The hatchback version has amazing handling characteristics with an excellent chassis and 4 wheel steering as standard. However the estate has a completly different suspension setup that although very good needs to be kept in top condition to get the best out of it. Spares for the estate suspension are very difficult to obtain so if you find one in a scrappies (estates are very sought after so rare to find them) grab what you can. As for the speed issue, ive always found the Xud diesel engine pretty quick if driven well. don't bother revving it past 3k as you wont really find much power and you will just make more noise. Use the torque of the engine. Also I think the estate had a different final ratio which may slow things down a bit?

eye_flys : Its not too bad but the handling really lets it down, going round a normal roundabout at a normal speed is like being in a boat in a storm! The body-roll Should improve with dramatic spring choppage though!
Boycie: It certainly seems slow but just need to get used to it i think.

I've got a sheddy ZX TurboD and I can thouroughly recommend the "ghetto alloy" look!
It'll look even better once you've hacked of a coil or two and dropped it a couple of splines on the torsion bars.
