yes. All nuts & bolts out. Heads however do not want to come off the block. There are plenty of thoughtfully provided places you can bolt onto and hang a rope off, but without a block & tackle or an engine hoist we couldn't get the sods free Fill the bores on a compression stroke with engine oil and turn the engine over with a hooge bar and whilst you have the pressure on smack the heads repeatedly from the sides with a large copper/hide mallet...

I was gonna say put the plugs back in and spin it over on the starter because apparently this can break them free. Any places you can get a heavy hammer and tappity tap tap them?

If its seized on to the studs then try the Coke trick. PaulH got me to do that when all else had failed to get the one off my B series and it worked a treat!

we have 6 foot of steel bar we intend to bolt to the rocker plyths. That should do the trick.

Nice car Alistair! Long time no talk... best thing you can do is bin that stupid and worthless POS 4100, that's the engine that almost ruined Cadillac over here. I remember seeing a brochure for extended warranties once, the only domestic cars excluded were the Corvette ZR1 and 4100 Cadillacs.
That big block is going to make it fly!
You doing the tranny too?

I'm sticking with the T200-4R.
Its there. It works. It has overdrive.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the 425 will not murder it instantly. Sadly I do have a heavy right foot...

That's right.. forgot those used a TH200. Nice thing about a 200 is the overdrive helps with mileage. It's plenty strong enough, if memory serves it's rated to take up to 600lb/ft of torque, so unless you do a hell of a build on the 425 it won't kill it. GM has always done 2 things better than anyone else on the planet.. build an automatic transmission and build an air conditioning system... had a 91 Brougham with a 350 in it once.. in bumper-to-bumper traffic, in Miami, in August, in direct sunlight, it was blowing 40 degrees F out of the vents.
Only thing I was worried about was if it was an electronically controlled one... that car does have on-board diagnostics.. if you want really screwball trivia, that bodystyle Caddy was the first production car with OBD, in 1980.. access the codes through the climate control digital panel.

And if you want to beef it up, you can always throw in the valve body from one of the hotrod G Body cars.. ya know, Grand National, Monte Carlo SS... they used TH200s and IIRC the Valve Bodies were hotrodded a bit on those.

I heard that, but also I reckon that if you are going to that bother you may as well look at the aftermarket ones. the sportier G bodies are not so common over here and I'm occasionally dubious about used transmission parts anyway... so if it needs to be shipped from the USA or bought new it might as well come from Hughes, Coan, B&M, TCI...
