Okay I'm doing the Retro Rides website at the moment.
Content wise it'll have a Calendar (with details of shows, track days, events etc.), Frequently Asked Questions (about the cars, the site etc.), and this Forum.
Now I was planning on doing a Directory of clubs and sites, but is this required? Its not a huge ammount of work to put together, just wondering if its required??
Any other content you'd like to see, the sort of thing you've looked for on the web before, but not found.

It would be good to build up a series of 'manuals' for cars. It's quite frequent you're trying to fix / explain something withoput say an exploded diagram of the thing that needs fixing....., does that make sense? Maybe people could post pictures / diagrams (from maybe a Haynes Manual) for frequent problems. ie I could post the exploded diagram from the Haynes Manual for the Mini on how to replace a wheel bearing.
It might be a good idea to built up a list of part numbers as well. Maybe a seperate area for usefull links to spares / accessories as well.

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Can't see the publishers (Haynes) being too keen on this - I think they might like to see you in court if you do. Must admit there are all sorts of things I'd like to put on my site but am restricted by copyright laws etc

Retro links would be good Don`t think a club listing is so good - I`m listed everywhere as secretary for our Mini club and all I get is junk mail and people wanting to sell their overpriced cars

Instead of scanning Haynes manuals, how about some self-written tutorials of how to do common jobs? E.G I did a rear wheel bearing on the Golf last month, it wouldn't have been a big deal to photo the process and do a small write up. Not a major mechanical task I'll admit, but might be useful?
Or some sort of FAQ for modding retro cars - eg obvious upgrades (lowering, basic tuning etc) stuff that applies across lots of models or something.

ooh some article ideas:
* Retro Sport - I've done a lot of road rallying in the past and it's ideally suited to some of our sort of cars, cheap (well, for motorsport) too... Mk2/Mk1 Escorts, Chevettes, AE86 Corollas, Pug 205GTis, all are popular on these sort of events. I'd be happy to write an article or something. Anyone done any circuit racing/hillclimbing/sprints/RWYB etc ?
* Basic restoration advice - how to use filler PROPERLY, good rustproofing products, that sort of thing
just thinking out loud...

Okay I'll put in an articles section then and fingers crossed we can put some useful/interesting stuff in it over time.
Will attempt to get some kind of preview design done today, work timescales permitting.

I didn't know you intended doing a new forum from the website. Can't you just link this one from the new site?

My other favourite forum, www.aussiefrogs.com has a member gallery, and a section where members can post a small article on common problems etc. This is part of the forum, but you cannot reply. There is also a function where you can send articles from old magazines etc and they are posted in the articles section, and also a section for members' links and a list of repairers/ suppliers who have done a raw deal for members. I also frequent another forum which has a bar at the top of the screen linking to a chat program. It displays how many people are chatting at once. This is cool, because if you are just dropping into the forum but you see 2 people are chatting you can drop in and chat for a bit too. It is an ezyboard forum though, so that might make a difference.
