Sh!tty luck dude Hope it isn't too terminal. If you need some manpower (with no Cadillac engine expertise whatsoever) give me a shout, especially if you end up hoiking the lump out and fitting something else where theres little to no diagnostics involved!

500 cuber would be ace ak - I'll keep my eyes open! and BTW Kev, your truck needs a TH400 or even a TH475 really. The TH350 isn't built to take the weight of a full size truck like yours really. Although the Powerglide is sturdy, probably would survive OK but I don't like the way they drive so much. They tend to be cheap though. cheapo powerglide would be fine for the time being, (you got any leads ;D) I'm very adaptable regarding driving style and cheap components!! I'd really like a manual in it, there's this cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300246654232&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=020on 'th'ebay in leeds which looks interesting, but the guy seems a bit vague on fitment, and I'm not sure I could lay my hands on a suitable box to fit it got to get something in and working in time for rrg - even if it means lashing a sherpa box and a rover, or even a 1.9 td in it!!! - kev

cra ppy luck dude, sorry to hear that, I was proper envious of that car, running the lpg even made it practical...
I'd go for a real caddy engine as well, get some proper grunt and solid reliability in your life, i mean it's not like handling is an issue here is it...

I know this feeling!! Clio Snaps cambelt jolly pain in the backside!!! Back up car head gasket pops and I sell to Sc aryold cortina who fixes immediately DOUBLE jolly pain in the backside!! Guess like m you'll be getting used to our wonderful public transport system!! Chin up it could be worse!! Quick tip then.... Don't assume the worst and sell me it for scrap, ask me to fix it for you That way, if its fixable you still have it (and I get paid) and if it ain't its still scrap. PS, wanna buy a car? lolz........

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

all I have spare atm is my '72 bright orange bug and i'm sure you'd rather walk than be seen in that. I can carry off orange.... The AA apparently are going to give me 72 hours free car hire and have something waiting for me at the local Avis depot. I dread to think, but I'll be mobile over the w/e at least. I'll need something after that though I guess. Thanks to all those who have offered help. I *will* be calling on it... and Kev - there are two patterns on the TH transmissions and PG (unless you get somethign well weird like an early TH for a nailead or pre-65 Cadillac) theres Chevy, and then theres everything else. GMC uses Chevy. The "other" pattern is called "BOP" (Buick Olds Pontiac) but also fits most Cadillacs except those who use Chevy derived engines. Some transes (T200R4 for example) use both bolt patterns and an integral bell housing. The Powerglide is the same length and slip yoke as a TH350 so should be a direct swap* * disclaimer = there are some oddball powerglides as well.... but 97.67689854% of them will be OK. Just check the bolt pattern.

And Martin, meh, these things happen. I was unlucky. Wish I hadn't bothered changing the oil & filter now! If it's any consolation, not only has the engine my own Cadillac blown up, but also now in Deb's Victor leaving me with 2 dead cars also.

May know to a caddilac Northstar with low milage on it, engine only. Will ask tomorrow and get a price if it's ang good to you?
Sorry to hear of your missfortune.
|
|
Low and slow
Why can't i tune it?

Northstar is a nice engine but too much work to fit in an older car. Sump is all wrong, a bunch of stuff needs work to avoid the bulkhead, etc. plus the torque is a little low for a 2+ ton barge.
I might go with a 350 Chevy if a Caddy motor doesn't turn up.

Might know to a 350 but guy flew out to states on tuesday, will keep watching thread and ask questions this end for anything.
Know worries on the north star we only use them in custom builds to be fair. ;D

Akku: If and when do you find a suitable engine but need labour with anything, give me a holler. Can't promise the 'three jack method' works with engines but we'll sort something out.... my local tool hire place does engine cranes for £15/day
