This made me laugh. Rang Mazda cos I needed some brake pad retaining clips, having lost mine in the little braking incident I had... BB: "Hello, I'm after some parts for a Mazda 929" Clueless Fool: (laughs) "929? No such car mate." BB: "That's funny 'cos there's one on my driveway." CF: "You mean a 626." BB: "No, I mean a 929." CF: "Hold on," (talks to equally witless colleague) "Nope, never heard of it mate." ... I eventually got it through his thick skull that my car does actually exist (thank heavens for that eh? I thought I had an imaginary car...). Unfortunately being an import this somehow complicated things - dunno why, as they were sold in the UK too. Still haven't heard back from them. Ah well. I made some myself in the end. That sorta thing drives me nuts! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

You should have driven it down the Mazda showroom and rubbed C.F's face in the matt paint until he accepted it was real and not a figment of a deranged mind!!

i phoned the m b dealer in newcastle to find out what the timing should be set at to run unleaded in my w123. my conversation went like this...
tcc-hello, ive got a 1982 w123 200 t with the m102 engine fitted.what position to run unleaded? m b-whats a w123? tcc-puts phone down. called the dealer at teeside, said the same, and got the reply straight off the top of his head. and id always wondered why the cress sandwich, with the crusts cut off brigade complained about m b dealerships constantly in the owners club mag.

This is the main reason why i never bother with main dealers. Most of my parts i get from a little car spares shop in pound lane. Its owned by the same two blokes who have been there for years and they can get you anything for anything. If its not in stock they'll have it next day. Most main dealers nowadays are staffed by kids who wouldnt even know what a carburettor was if you plonked one down in front of them. Course, when i were a lad this was all fields you know.... ;D

I would be interested but I have no space at all ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) . The 929 is tiding me over 'til the Merc is back on the road, although modding the thing is getting more and more tempting. I have to keep my discipline! tcc - I'm surprised at the MB stealership. They're supposed to have cleaned up their act. I've found it varies dealer to dealer. My MB place isn't all that bad except they keep on asking me for a chassis number for the V8. I don't have the chassis! Last time I went he kept saying "you can get parts prices over the phone, Sir" - I don't think he liked me rocking up in the Mazda to be honest. Lowers the tone, what! ;D ;D ;D

My own experience at Woodford Jaguar was completely different. I walked into their showroom wearing a really shabby t-shirt, army lightweights and a pair of workboots - all covered in oil and dirt - and a salesman appeared and treated me as if I'd walked in with a million quid in my hands!
I found them really helpful (I just wanted to get something minor done on my Soveriegn) and he couldn't have been more helpful. Even offered to phone their service department and make me a cup of tea whilst he did it.
When I've rung Peugeot main dealers about 205 parts they've been really helpful too (although ludicrously expensive).

Good man, local rover dealership had the nerve to frown on my Clash tshirt and converse trainers. And that was before I asked if they had any old stock mini parts ;D
Kinda ironic as they'll all be unemployed soon ;D

Yeah, I get that too.
"k" - I need a *insert item here* for a 1973 GC110 Skyline "attendant" - they didn't make Skylines back then. "k" - then I guess my car is imaginary, but just so you know, they've been making Skylines since the 50's.

I had an enjoyable experience when I was looking for some parts for my 1850, walked into a little motor factors place in the highstreet ran by a a mirror image of Apu from the Simpsons, looked around but really couldn't see what I wanted - convo went like this : "You Sir, what are you looking for?" "Ah, parts for my car but I don't think you'll have any" "What car is this, why would I not have parts Sah!" "Ok then, it's a '78 Triumph Dolomite" (off the top of his head) "Ah yes Sir, would that be 1500HL, 1850HL or the ..Sprint?" (gets book full of parts numbers out) Me : ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) He had practically everything ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) , that'll teach me (and yes he did say "Thankyou comeagain" as I left ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) )

Just been to the local Motaman to get a rad cap for the Mini, after being asked make, model, chassis number, year etc etc and me confusing him by saying the cars a 1990, the engines from a 93 MG Metro and the rad is from a 98 Cooper - he checks his parts list, goes into the back of the shop, comes back and says "Sorry, don`t sell radiator caps ..." You can buy ever kind of neon light, big exhaust, sub woofer etc, but not rad caps .....

Aaah but Mr Lewis. Your parts man runs his own business and is therefore keen to help and more importantly sell!
Mr franchised dealer in essence works in car finance and wants you to either buy a new car on credit or f**k off

I've had problems with that sort of thing before. I went into Halfords once to get points and condenser for the Imp. The conversation with the eejit at the counter went basically like this: Rev 9: Hi, I'm looking for points and condenser for a Hillman Imp, have you got any? Thick T*sser: Sorry, what do you need? R9: Points and a condenser. For a Hillman ImpTT: <Keys something on wee computer thing> OK, points and condenser, what brand and model is your car? R9: I told you! A Hillman Imp! TT: Yes, but what brand? You know, like Ford, or Vauxhall R9: Hillman! Are you listening?!TT: Are you sure sir? Hillman isn't on the computer. R9: Try a Rootes or Chrysler Imp. TT: <Keys some stuff in> No, nothing. I think maybe you've got the name wrong sir. What does the logbook say? R9: Forget it. Bloody forget it. Where's your manager? I want to talk to him. Which of course got him a bit nervous, but I spoke to his manager anyway, and was bloody annoyed! His manager apologised about five times to stop me shouting about his staff's arrogance, but it turns out that Halfords in Greenock don't do any Rootes Group bits, and neither do any other Halfords I've encountered. What's more there are lots of Halfords branches with stupid, ignorant, condescending little pr*cks working the counters! ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) Also it's great fun going into car dealers looking dodgy, especially when they've p*ssed you off so you go in looking intimidating! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) The last time a certain local Ford garage (I won't stick any names up because I don't know much about what counts as libel! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) tried to screw a relative of mine over the servicing of her Ford Ka (awful awful car, there's always something wrong with it and she won't let me fix anything for her because it'd invalidate her warranty.) by telling her she needed various bits that I knew for a fact didn't need changed, like wiper blades that were fine and tyres that had months at least on the front and the backs were even better, so I went in to rant at them dressed in my usual part revolutionary, part goth, part international terrorist sort of way, (black shirt, black combats, , black immaculately polished combat boots, long black hair, needing a shave, Che Guevara-style beret, sickle and hammers on shirt lapels, the overall look is very intimidating! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ) and went up to the annoying little tit at the counter who knows curse word all about motors or his job (you see, they're not just working at Halfords, they're everywhere! ;D ;D) and gave him hell and demanded that the manager came out before giving him hell as well. Great fun when they try and screw you! ;D ;D ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
