thanks, I'm suprised at how fast we are getting it done, considering we are only using sundays to do it. will have some more piccys tomorrow night. gotta felling that its gonna take longer to get it registered than it has taken to build,

I don't mean to be a doom-sayer, but.... Is that a timing belt? or is it a proper drive belt for this sort of thing? A timing belt takes the torque from a crankshaft (not that high) and turns the valve gear (not that much resistance). Here, you are taking the torque output from the box (much higher) and turning an axle (very high resistance) Maybe you have it all worked out, but in my head the first time you open up the throttle, the tyres will grip and that belt will strip its teeth and you will be going nowhere.
I hope I'm wrong.

i see what your saying but ... as the bike is only a 125cc the risistance isnt going to be that high, the belt we have used is very thick. i will get madmart to explain later as i don't want to embarass myself too much, I'm not too sure on all the correct turms but the wheel that the belt goes around is pretty large so there are always 12 teeth from the belt in contact with the pully. so there is considerably less friction. i hope, thats the plan anyway, even if it doesnt work we can get a reinforced belt made up for us

Timing belts are incredibly strong, and you'd be surprised how many horsepower are actually required to drive the valve gear of a car engine. I would be willing to bet that the belt used here should be more than capable of withstanding this sort of use for a very long time. Brilliant work on the belt tensioner/idler system as well by the way, looks fantastic! Can't wait to see some photos of it finished.

well have some dissapointing news test rode the trike and broke it. oops didnt brake the belt but the diff part of the belt drive crumbled into about 8 pieces because it wasnt centered properly. never mind. so it would seem that our idea of running a chain to a belt to the diff was not such a good idea. but never fear we are doing a chain to another chain to the diff. at least the chain should be less likely to brake.

got her mot'd last week. yay another project finished. whilst I'm waiting for photo bucket I will have a ramble previously the trike was belt drive, the belt was strong enough but the teeth kept jumping when put under extreme strain so not admitting defeat i wound the tension right up on the belt and tried again the sprockets for the belt are cast steel and the one i welded round the diff shattered under the strain on the second test run. so a chain from a 2.4 d transit and two sprockets later and its now chain drive. mot'd and ready for the road. anyway pics;

hi jon its a timing chain and sprockets from a 2000 ish 2.4 transit diesel, it does'nt need a sva test as its a bolt on adaptation. still waiting for the dvla to return the amended logbook, should be classed as a tricycle when it's back. then steph can start using it

UPDATE!!!!!!! But its bad news. i have been using the trike. but went a bit over board and decided to ride it to maidstone from swanley, barely made it and wen i did get there the exhaust fell off and the gear leaver got loose on the spline and just kept spinning round and to top it off i cracked the tank. not going well, any how got all that sorted and back on the road but on my way home from work one night the diff fell apart again, just wanted to put a match to the dam thing, getting it fixed now. should be ready in time for retro rides, maybe we will take it on the truck, should be fun round the track.
