I clocked this Audi 200 avant quattro over on classic Audi yesterday. The owner had been trying to get shot as it had been in storage for a few years and needed it out of the way. Apart from a braking system overhaul being needed along with a set of tyres it was in damn good shape and a weekends work would have returned it to the road. I clocked it too late to save it otherwise I would have gone and got it. Eventually it was sold for scrap, £90! I was under the impression that these cars were desirable and worth quite a bit, I was obviously wrong! I really hate to see good cars crushed, especially a great motor like this. Heres the thread.. its heartbreaking! www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1638

i think its down to what the owners know. they may be desirable to audi or retro bods but to the rest of the poulation(myself included) there only worth what youre offered. if thats scrap money then it gets crushed
also if owners think there worth more than they really are they wont get a buyer anyway
.
these days because of the crazy money that scrap brings lots of half decent cars end up weighed in.

I am going to collect a Volvo 940 tomorrow, which I am quite pleased about... I would have preferred that any day of the week. Buggeration.

Such a waste of what looked to be a really straight car Surely the owner could've waited a bit for you to come and pick it up That's the trouble with the price of scrap being so high these days , loads of perfectly good car's are being crushed Last week I saw what looked like a complete Rover P6 complete with spare wheel kit on the boot with the vinyl cover still in place that had been picked up with the claw in my local scrap metal merchants God , I hate those places At least in a scrap yard you can strip the car of useable bits but those places are just bl*ody brutal and mainly frequented by thieves and travellers !!!

You've been telling me you were a genius since you were seventeen ... in all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean !

I think 70% or so of cars go straight into the crusher rathe than being broken. More instant cash for the person who brings the car in that way!
Check ebay, they're really cheap even with tax and MOT. Very rare to find one with such low mileage though!
I could have rang the guy and asked him to postpone the cars death but I didnt want to mess him about. I just didnt know when I could have got down to it. Very sad but you cant save them all!

It's OK for me, maybe you have to be logged on. Basically somebody sold a straight solid MK4 V8 cortina for £160 for banger racing....

Amazing, I have never seen a 200 Avant - and maybe never will given people's indifference to them. Why is the quattro coupe so popular, yet basically similar (and more interesting IMO) cars are ignored?

It is a shame but if you put a rare Audi up for sale on an Audi forum for 200 quid and nobody takes it on, what else can you do?

It's true, it is a shame, I hate to see stuff crushed rather than saved, but I cant even get £140 out of anyone for an 80,000 mile Renault 5, so that is about to go to the scrap man. i really don't want to do it, but I have had it up for sale for months, with very little interest. I feel bad for doing it, but its on a borrowed drive etc, these things end up happening sometimes unfortunately

its sad, but its the economic situation at at the mo - no-one is willing to take anything on that isnt tiptop unless they have lots of space and free time.

Like I said in the Audo forum thread, you need the right person, with the right money and at the right time. If not its scrap man ahoy!
The Audi was advertised for £200and eventially sold for £90, why didnt he advertise it for less? Ive known some people insist that a car is crushed if they don't get top dollar for it as they don't want other people to profit. Maybe that was the case with the Audi?

I gave (well sold but payment in beer and skills :-) ) an old scooter to cheeqi last night - if he decides to sell it on thats up to him - I couldnt be arsed with it so how can I complain! :-)

Ive been given cars for banger racing, or paid £20-£30 on the condition that the car is destroyed. When I mentioned putting it back on the road the price shot up to £100 odd.
