Been out for a drive this in the car today - its funny seeing people's reactions to it. One gang of absolute scrotes nearly kissed me when they seen it.....apparently i look like a P - I - M - P. Aaanyway, got a few clips and some pipe and gonna try to resolve this fuel smell issue as it really is taking the good out of driving it. The GF has vowed not to get into it until the smell is sorted out.......ah well, least i have my own space now! Here's a quick video to give an idea of noise:

purchase of the year leigh!!!!! I love gt,s ;D ;D ;D. now get some huuuge bbs splits on there pronto. Ha ha ha!!! Its defo my purchase of the year alright!!! Have to say my Dad went off the rails when i told him i was collecting it and my mother just shouted "are you never gonna put a ring on that girl's finger!!". Best bit is that is was the GF who told me i'd have to get it!! I like BBS' but they're a bit played out at this stage - i mean every VW ever built has had a set or two on them. Plus, they're so over-priced its not even funny. The Compo's i have will be going on and i'm hoping to get my rostyles banded for winter use too. I have to lower it a touch but not too much, as i said it'll be a daily afterall and i'm not getting into the same hassle with the underground carparks again!

As it's your daily, I presume you're going to put it onto Irish plates then? VRT is gonna seriously sting.

I'm leaving it on the original plates and keeping it registered at home though as my home address is north of the border. We'll see how it goes!!!

The compomotives are hot. The VRT isn't that bad then... I've heard about people paying >e1K on 80s Capris. From which of the fair occupied counties do you hail?

liegh i would have a rethink on rereging it this is fact, once the car is over 30 you pay 50 euro vrt hence capri boys paying a grand as its not deemed classic yet here, the car is nct exempt no testing whatsoever needed to tax the car,the road tax is 42 euro per YEAR and classic policies start at around 250 for a lmited mileage policy i chat to a few of the guys up north and its a big problem mot ing an old car as alot of mot places are not that sympathetic to classics your chioce in the end but at the mo its far cheaper to run a classic down here and you can still drive it uo north legit on irish road tax and insurance just thought i would let you know, the only problem I'm guessing you will have is when re registering they wont have a2.0 litre one in their system and you will have to wait for them to generate a code which if you pester them should take 3 or 4 days but don't let them fob you off!!!!!

Been tinkering a bit today at the car and after returning from my hols i'm delighted to find the smell of fuel has gone from the car. It turns out that when the car is anywhere near full with petrol it was defo flowing out through the vent pipes into the passenger compartment. Now i've to get the clutch adjusted and still trying to get a better response from the brakes. Bled the whole system this evening and helped a bit but seems to be intermittent servo power, whatever is causing that? Gonna try to give the rims a lick tomoro as well - just to help it along - always helps with a visual so pics tomoro too
Now, i've been thinking for a while of getting some wide superlites for this. Only thing is they'd have to be 13" as the deep lip is only available on them. Opinions? I can get a pretty good deal on them from a guy up home too

Got some work done on the car over the last two days but still have niggly little bits to clear up. Got my clutch adjusted to a usable level but haven't quite got the brakes up to scratch. Problem is that one minute i have a really good pedal and then the next I could have next to nothing - not very reassuring at all! So still working on that one. Also drove home from work some 100 odd miles in the very early hours on wednesday morning which gave me the opportunity to see how the car held up on twisty roads as well as the straights and to say it was an interesting experience is an understatement. The tyres were squealing, the body was rolling, understeering, tramlining, front tyres scrubbing the inner arches on anywhere near lock.................so today i got the 70profiles replaced with some 60's which have made a vast improvement and look much better to boot. A go on the alignment lasers also improved matters as it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. While up on the lift i found some kinked hard brake lines that need to be replaced but generally it all seems ok underneath. Found a few leaky fuel hoses fromthe pump and fixed those and i have eradicated the fuel smell from the cockpit now so I'm happy out and i don't hear Obi Wan Kenobi telling me to drive using " The Force" as much!! Also looked at a few wheel alternatives: The stretch on these from above: Thought i took a photo of these alleycats too but cant find it now so here's the car they were on: I leave it to your own opinion but i'm sticking with the revo's still but haven't gotten around to polishing/painting them yet. The next thing on the list was the exhaust. As cool as it is having a loud car, its not appreciated by my neighbours/housemates/girlfriend/Jesus/police/wildlife/etc at 5am so i had to remedy it. Brought it to the local exhaust manufacturer and it started out looking like this: And a lot of cutting and swearing and pushing later i had gone from a single very small (and apparently empty) middle box to a front resonator and better rear section. But my wallet did take a bit of a pounding i must admit. Sound is still cool but its more bearable now and i can have a conversation in the car now too Next on the list was the windscreen rubber as it was leaking like a pensioners pants and everything inside was getting severely ruined by the ingress of the lakes at home. Its now been sealed and hopefully that'll cure that problem. Also acquired a normal sounding horn as the Awoogaa one was just embarrassing, fitted a new wheel bearing and hunted the cause of my lack of fuel gauge reading (still evading me!) but overall a good bit of work done. I'll be a bit happier driving it back in the morning anyway

I was just gonna say it could do with an extra inch or two at the back and then saw the compomotive pics. Looks beautiful, can remember street machine going through a phase of featuring a few of these back in the day.

Its tidy enough body wise but still needs fettling to get it right. Are they ever finished though? Matt, I agree on the width issue just gotta find a wheel that suits as I'm not keen on the compo's on this - they suit the Magnum so much more. I'd love to put those Torq Thrust D wheels on it but they only come in 5 stud so unless I get new hubs......... And Maxx, all monetary donations welcome for those BBS's!!!!

looking good wanna sell those ally cats? thanks buddy. The alleycats aren't mine, I'm currently trying to guilt trip their owner into sharing them! Hopefully that wee corsa should fail MOT soon and give me a better chance of netting them!

Made a little hay while the sun shone today. Got my door fixed so I can now open it from the inside again instead of the embarrassing drama of winding the window down to let myself out (thought I was gonna have to Dukes of Hazzard it a few times!) . Also got my horn on ALRIIIIGHTYeah, its only a minor difference but somebody had fitted one of those Ahooooooga horns so it had to go. The shame of hitting the button beforehand And then I started spraying the wheel centres black. Before and after shots coming up but excuse the after shots - the neighbour had pulled in and I couldnt have been ar5ed moving the car for a better angle - 3 hours sleep and up since 5am will do that to you. to this:
