Complete car, have a look on Club Polo ? I sacked it off after too many unnecessary upgrades and too many muppets
I was gonna wait until it was 20 and put it on my classic policy but I've got too many cars and last in/1st out rule applies
If you wanna strip what you need we can sort a price ?

Lets try again, it would appear that photobucket works again. The above image is how it sat for nearly a year without a gearbox in it at my parents house. As I have a good relationship with them, it was decided that it should really be on MY driveway........ So, with an engine hoist borrowed from my Dads neighbour ( cost - a bottle of Jamesons ) I set to with the 3 generations of us

Anyway , after some farting about I got the very tired old lump out - I reckon it has done at least 200k Here it is ! Has transported me ( and the mk1 obviously ) all over the country, has seen 100mph on many occasions ( on private land obviously ) and is now having a rest in the corner of my Dads garage, Want to rebuild it and put it in a Polo or something - seems only fair. We then chucked it all back together so it could be moved. Used Shiply, cost about 200 quid. So, a few weeks later, I got a text from my Dad to remind me that it was on its way up North to mine ( like I'd forgotten ) a buttock clenching few hours later... BEHOLD ! Shoved it onto my driveway by myself ( weighs nothing even WITH an engine in it.... ) I then stared at it for a while , the reality sinking in that I really didnt have any excuses not to work on it anymore....

What engine I hear you cry ? Its another 1300 solid lifter, with a 5 speed box from a 6n Polo. Here it is sat on a wheel after it had, sat in my previously crashed mk1 ( not my fault ) which I sold, I then traded some seats for it back, it then sat in my Dads garage at their old house, then into one of those big storage places, then under a tarp behind a bush in my new front garden. I wasnt holding out much hope that it would be any good, but its all I had and continued anyway. It turned and had compression, plugs looked ok, onwards. First off, bit of morale boosting - stuck it on the wall for a bit... Gave the block a good cleaning down and got some ( far too glossy ) engine enamel on it. It was at around this point that one of the cats turned up and recognised the car from its previous life as the vehicle that used to take him to the vet, he was unamused. Anyway, the day of the football ( when England went out of the world cup ) a very good mate who also has a mk1 golf drove 4 hours with his engine hoist, tools etc to help me mate the engine and box and get it in the car.. It went more or less without a hitch, even a couple of petrolhead neighbours joined in. We then went to the pub ( ignoring the football as best we could ) and drank perhaps a few too many beers.

Once my head had cleared. I plumbed it all up. To my surprise it fired up more or less immediately once I'd sorted out the engine earth strap and sucked some fuel through from the tank - mouthful of petrol. NICE. That brings me more or less up to date, will need to pop the rear beam off as the surface corrosion is getting a lot worse, front of car is fine due to the old engine curse word oil everywhere for 10 years or so. Some of the eagle eyed of you may have noticed my inlet manifold, its from Dbilas and rather nice. Can't afford any carbs or TB's at the moment, so it is on a shelf in the front room. Also on the lookout for a nice rocker cover - something like this, or SORG, FELD etc, if anyone has one, ha ha. Not my images.

Brief update. It moves ! Struggling with getting it to tick over at the moment, although it has improved dramatically after I noticed I hadn't connected the brake booster... Anyhow, it runs on all 4, no great clouds of smoke, exhaust is a bit blowy etc. However, main concern is getting the gear linkage to behave itself, its now a 5 speed from a 6n polo, I'm told I should be able to get all 5 without modifying the standard linkage ?? Anyone else done this ?! Would be nice to be able to move it out of its parking space without pushing it backwards

Been progressing slowly with this, mainly due to lack of funds.
Really been struggling to find a replacement rubber carb flange for the old girl,
VW part number - 052129765B
Its not the same as the commonly available ones ( which I have two of... ) as I have the later type water cooled inlet manifold.
Other than that, just been getting ready to start the rest of the work needed as and when it isn't raining.
