Turning this : Into this : Wheels are £200 Alleycat Crosspokes www.kinkymickshappywheelshack.com/images/2936_jpg.jpgFurther to that is it lowered, as much as it can be. Debadged Clear indicators Resprayed Also optionally it's delocked,.. but the cost of that may be cheaper to get all the chrome done and get more trim. How much all in you reckon??? (not counting price of car). Engine can be fiddled at a later date

I don't know how much, but it'll probably take a slong as it did to alter the picture! PS You didn't include a price for the new rubber to go on the alloys............!

Well your first point is kind of the point at the moment hehe ,.. the phat engine can go in after it looks nice *cough* ,.. proof you can have a cool looking retro car and not spend a lot of money. I wonder what I can fit under that hood,.... Fiat Twincam?? point 2 ,.. Hmm that'd probably be more than the base car would cost

Can't cost too much can it! Any parts on eBay to give you an idea? Well, I've been inspired by this: Which Danny Allen reckons cost him £200ish to do. Hmmmmm and there's a 5 door 1.3 not far from me for under £50...

Well, I've been inspired by this: Well it'd be my first modification project you see, so lowering is a bit of a black art on cars that don't have readily availably lowering kits (like VWs do),.. Wheel adaptors would probably be required not sure what they cost. Cosmetic bits (debadged grill, clear indicators) are going to be cheap. It's just really the lowering and spraying I guess. But spraying can be done cheaply and get a reasonable finish (never going to be a concours winner),.. Re: Golf,.. do it do it do it,.. sub £1,000 = The way forward

Depending on the quality of paint job - £1500 - £2000
Must be able to get a 2.0ltr 16V or even a 3.0ltr 24V Vauxhaul unit? Maybe a Calibra Turbo? How about the 1800 from the Manta?
Could always fit wider alloys and flare / tub the arches a bit more.

I reckon:
Golf - under £100 (get a 1.3 - cheap tax & insurance too!) Some matte paint in whatever colour - £50ish? We've got a compressor or I could brush it on Lowering - no idea, never done it, but my brother had cut down springs on his old Lada for years, might be worth a try accessories... cheap eBay tat!
I had the idea of painting it that horrible/cool 70s mustard/green colour that BL used on Minis, and some big chrome mirrors on the wings!

I wouldn't recommend chopping the springs on a Chevette, the rears are pigtailed (I think) which makes for some mildly complicated re-working...and the fronts are inclined which means the shorter they get the greater the spring rate needed (Although chopped springs do have a greater spring rate than the original springs before cutting, it's not enough in this case). Springs should be available custom-made or off the shelf and would definitely be worth the investment.
Nice car. Wheels should be cheap enough...wide 13s crop up on ebay and findit (check the competition car section). Look for BMW or Manta rims 'cos you need the RWD offset. You NEED 175/50/13s on them for proper Euro-look and they're harder to find - although I narrowly missed a new pair on ebay for £32 on Sunday - 'kin last second bidders! Check the Mini sites for those too...they use 175/50/13s when running 13s.
Springs? Allow £100 ish Paint - That could be pricey unless you rattle can it...or you have a mate in the trade.
I think you could have it bought and built foe 1k though.
When it comes to engine swaps...the rally boys used to run Ford X-flows in 'em...SM did a build up (the infamous project DMC) which would come in handy for the whole project!

Chevette shaped Kadetts are Kadett C's. They came as: Aeros Caravans Citys Limos (2 and 4 door) and Coupes
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Kadett-C Coupe it is then,.. hmm the ebay car (still under £200 13 hours to go) is an auto, I don't fancy changing the gearbox on it,.. damn,.. Have to keep my eye out for a Kadett-C manual,.. for reasonable money. Might buy a set of wheels, in preperation for the project

not much provision for a long bonnet there... I wish we'd kept hold of my grandads old Chevette. That was top. Don't see many of them around these days...
