A bit different, but that is a cracking looking 944. Glad to see that you are happy with it. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had it, has it cost you much in upkeep, and what is it like on fuel? Thinking of another car possibly. I've owned it about 6 years. Up until a couple of months ago it was my daily driver. It's never let me down.... I think they tend to have less problems if they are used regular, rather than being parked up in a garage most of their life.
Fuel isn't that bad, unless you floor it everywhere. There's that much touque in the S2's engine that you'll find it virtually drives itself at 35mph once in fifth.

Hi Porsche, as previously mentioned, stunning car! What (egads, I hear you cry!) are the auto variants of these like? Any good and reliable?

Hi mate! Do I know you from Porsche-1? Any idea why the site has closed down? PS your car looks great! Yeah, I used to be on the Porsche-1 forum. I'm not to sure why the site closed, but I think it was something to do with T.I.P.E.C. getting their own forum and taking alot of members with 'em.
Have you got any pic's of your Porsche on this site?

Hi Porsche, as previously mentioned, stunning car! What (egads, I hear you cry!) are the auto variants of these like? Any good and reliable? I've never driven an auto, so I couldn't say. But I've never heard anything bad said about them.
I would think that there aren't many autos about.

On a long run, mainly motorway, not gunning it (i.e. 80 ish), loaded to the brim they will do mid 30's. We have had ours 5 years, used as a daily driver, very reliable but you have to spend the money when its needed. No depreciation to speak of, probably costs more than a Fiesta to run, but definately cheaper than an Alfa 156.
But, and this is important, sooooo much fun compared to modern cars, and still pretty quick. (also note can be interesting in adverse grip situations).

So for MPG they will do the same as a Peugeot 306 GTi-6 then you would say. On a trackday, my mate got 12MPG out of his, with me averaging 31MPG out of mine, and going as far is 38MPG on the motorway doing around 80mph.
I always liked them, but the cost of some items can be eye watering I have heard, such as a cambelt kit (where it is advised to go for a genuine Porsche item) and clutch (I hear that's a 12 hour job due to the 'box being at the back?
Still, they are one of my favourite Porsches and cars for that matter, and that one looks a beauty with the individual, but tastefully done individual touches. Damn, I may do a quote to see if the price of insurance has come down for me (23 years old with 3 years NCB.).

Stunning looking car this and has certainly got me interested. What are the differences between the various models, S, S2, LUX etc?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Lux is the basic 2.4 L model (2.7 on the very last ones. 944S had a 16V head, was much hyped but not much quicker than the Lux. 944S2 has a 3 L engine with the 16V had. Also has turbo styling and most of the turbo alluminium suspension and brake parts.
944 Turbo comes in 2 guises. 220 and 250.
I think that covers the main models. add options, limited editions, automatics and cabrios into the mix and there are a lot of variants.
Happy to be corrected if its not all correct.

That's pretty much right, except that the first 944's had a 2.5ltr not a 2.4ltr engine. The Lux model wasn't introduced till the 1987 model year. It's also worth noting that cars built from 1985 had a revised "oval" dashboard and interior.
Turbo/S2/Cabriolet models are considered the better cars but cost more to buy and parts are more expensive than other 944s.

I'll just add to all the 'lovely car and great wheels' comments - hassle free too by the sounds of it, just the way I like em
