I absolutely love it. It's kind of an antidote for sitting stuck in traffic for ages, and makes me remember why I love driving. I don't even go silly most of the time, it's just nice to be on an empty road with just you, the car, and the lit patch of tarmac in front of you.

Haven't really done it for ages, but it is fantastic!
Most I've got recently was 11pm the other night in the Land Rover on the M5/M6 in the pouring rain.
When I moved out of my parents and into my partners house, I'd deliberatly go on the motorway and take the long way round just so I could cruise along and enjoy the lovely empty motorway.

Totally with you... I wrote one of my favourite articles about driving around London at night, we started at 2am and finished at 6am. Smoking around in a Mk1 Capri. Get out there and do it

Yeah it rocks. Was bored one night at uni, jumped in the capri about 11, smoked down to land's end, sat about for half hour then went back for my 9am lecture. I love random road trips-drives.

for me its always been the perfect escape from life, just slip her into gear and cruise, not too fast, not too slow, not particularly going anywhere just you, ur car, some good tunes and that sense of freedom.
ive also have a few times on those long night time motorway drives where you meet another car and you just kinda hang together, side by side, man i do love driving like that!!

i agree with you all =] best is hot night window open take it easy with a coldish breeze and what a great idea we have here- www.night-driving.com/ check out the map,add your own fav routes share with fellow night drivers and find new ones, may have to do the loop from wolves around brum centre and back with a few added detours along way so more country side less motorway

Used to do it when I had the Saab convertible. Summer's evening, no clouds, stars out, roof down, out of town with a punk/goth/80's mixed MP3 CD on random so you never knew what was coming next.
Great way to destress, don't need to fast, just go free.

We went on a night drive (not a particularly late one though) 200mile round trip with no planned places on interest. Found 2 majorly great photo locations. Explored dockland that i never knew existed, got lost when the diversion signs went missing and a blast home. Great!
my words last night where ,'When i get my license this is what I'm doing : Random exploring!'. Can't wait.

Get out there and do it I'm with him /\. Central London at night is superb. A bit more frustrating now there's CCTV being watched everywhere so you can't get away with a few of the turns I used to but still very good. ;D

One of the things I like about doing a night shift (in various locations around the country) on a Saturday night.
Used to be better in the Midget though - there really is something special about driving at night with the roof down especially, as somebody mentioned, under a clear starry(?) sky.
