Later his week, I'm picing up a couple of spares cars and need to store them at the end of my garden. Problem is, its overgrown and wild. I mean 5-foot high nettles and other triffid-like plants. I attacked it with the strimmer a few days ago, but its growing back already. Once the cars are parked there, they will be overgrown within a month. I need weedkiller - nothing too expensive, preferably some household chemical I can mix up myself, that I can spray there. I'm ot worried about damaging surrounding plants or stuff like that, I want scorched bare earth! any suggestions?

Could you put some slabs down to give yourself something to stand the cars on? You wouldn't need many.

you need some stuff called grazeon, or maybe graze-on.
its proper agricultural farmers stuff, and will kill anything except it doesnt kill grass so it wont leave your garden as a barren wasteland. grass is still bad for car sills though. the grazeon makes short work of nettles and brambles, which a lot of the other cheapo weedkillers wont touch. itll cost you about "40 for a bottle but it will make a few thousand letres of it! give it 2 or 3 heavy coats, leave for a week or 2, rake all the dead stuff up, spray the floor again to stop it coming back, then lay a plastic sheet type tarp down (not a woven one) and park the car on that.

Let me try to turn it into a lovely nature reserve. A bit of my care and attention and it'll be dead within hours. Seriously though, anything basically that you're not meant to pour onto the floor and wash away (used oil, diesel, strong toilet cleaner etc) will do wonders. HOWEVER don't let anyone catch you doing this, there's pretty hefty fines for such pollution. All I know is, when we wrote choice words in 6' high letters across my college football field using a spray can of Mr Muscle, the next day they were visible in beautiful brown letters

Please don't pour diesel/oil/parrafin etc on the ground, not only is it a waste but the pollution to the water tables is a serious problem. 5 litres of any of those is enough to do serious damage to any water course.

The trouble is with weed killing it, is that the weeds will die but they will still be all over the cars.
chop them back down and wait for new foliage to appear, then spray the new foliage with a strong contact herbicide.
Roundup is ok but takes upto 3 weeks to have any effect, try "path clear" instead.

And there is a chance that the EA can track down where the pollutants has come from if its serious - i used to do contaminated land work, and the general answer is not to do it - it is really really nasty
