the bonnet frame is bonded to the skin, with the seam sealer stuff they use. lots of it as you can see! I came up with a really good way to cut through it without marking the outer skin, but after id put a few dents in the bonnet levering/pulling most of the bits of the frame off tbh it don't matter on this thing though, a few more dents add to 'the look' the work done on this car will be very sporadic, I do need it done fairly quickly but all the work on it will be done in short bursts either in quiet periods or after hours, as ive got some major projects on the go for customers that have to come first.

I'd be wary of making the bonnet more floppy and still relying on the standard bonnet catch, they don't hold well if the angle goes funny like when the bonnet can flex and bend in the middle.

updates- first, to answer popuptoasters concerns, heres a shot of the finished bonnet setup. id already sliced out the latch plate off the bonnet along with the inner skin, and ditched the latch mechansim and cable, etc. so I needed to slap on some bonnet pins. I also added the fairly obvious standoffs- close up of fitted pins- and my el-cheapo steel standoffs. I didnt fancy paying well over the odds for some billet alloy bits with 'cosworth' engraved in them when I was perfectly capable of making up some steel ones myself- i still need to whip them off and slap some paint on them yet though.

next up, some serious scrap yard shopping! this is what 30 quid buys you in the scrappy seat market. yeah, I know they're some chavtastic sh1tty corbeau copies, but theyll keep me in the correct position unlike the stockers, and they each weigh about 3 kg less too. theyll do for now. ive not done the mounts yet, they're only thrown in. next up, this was pirated from an MX5 for the pricely some of £10 its a leather rim momo, which a suprising amount of them came with, hidden under a big gay foam pad over the spokes. I'm picky when it comes to steering wheels, i like a fairly thin rim with no bulges or bumps, and it has to be round, no squared off bottom or anything. its a decent (read large- 14.5-15" or so) diameter too, so will be fine with no PAS and wideish tyres. next, I had to buy another cheapo steering wheel to get a ford boss kit- another tenner. the boss kits not a sierra one as the horn ring setup and steering lock was wrong, but it didnt matter as id sliced off my ignition barrel, steering lock, and any other extraneous bosses off the upper ally bit of the column and filed it all smooth, as you can see- the cheapo wheel also supplied the momo type hornpush. lastly, I was on the lookout for some twin leccy fans, when I happened upon this under the bonnet of what I think was a toyota carina(?) the one with the same 2L motor as the mk1 MR2s anyway. the rad is exactly the same size as the ford one(toyota top, ford bottom)- one outlet is in the same place and the other is close enough, but the major factor is the twin fans on it. ready mounted and wired, definately saves a job or 2! thats it, for now..........

Great to see this unfinished project, and old commercial getting ready for the road again. The don't always make it back on the road. watching what should be a interestng and entertaining thread with your fast pace and detailed write up. Good tip about dry ice, i'm currently deliberating with my deadening, but since theres gonna be some close prox welding its gonna get burned anyway! ;D so will the juice out of my basic smoke mahine show it whos boss or is that some inferior smoke stuff??

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
