Thats going to look great cant wait to see it with tyres on! Thats a great idea, can you make something like that up and start selling it as i'd love wheels for the viva that actually fitted 4inch rather than 100mm ones.

Good work Mr Bognor! I'd love to know what your kids think of you ;D I don't actually think they take much notice. There's the occasional "why don't you get a decent car" type comment. I've been quite surprised by how few have even mentioned the wheels while they have been in the classroom, even my engineering groups are pretty disinterested. Leigh, what size tyres were you running on the AlleyCats?

I'm not sure they would be much use for most designs of wheel, the flat face of the slots lend then to it. If the slots had been 4" I'd have been inclined to machine some spigot rings and use wobble bolts.

The wheels are all machined now, re-drilled to 4x100 with a 60 degree taper. I was Going to try and get tyres on them and get up to the Ace for Awards Night. Unfortunately there was some drama at home, which meant that I wanted to stay with Nikki, so I didn't get the wheels on or to the Ace. I'm destined never to get there for an awards night. I've also been playing with gear leavers again, I've turned up an adaptor to take the thread on the top of the leaver from 10x1.25 to 10x1.5, maily because I only have a tap in 10x1.25 and no die. And made up a rod with a 10mm thread on each end. Its about 300mm long but its easy to make a longer one if I decide I'd like a little more. Because my other two gear knobs are threaded with x1.25 I've had to come up with a stop gap topper, using an old skateboard wheel. I have a scheme for another knob though that will fit the general theme better. The knob sits about level with the top of the steering wheel. Clearence is a bit tight in 5th and reverse. Thanks go to Mr donttellhimpike for supplying this, which has finally arrived now that the postmen can move about a bit more safely. I like to think it shows my intentions and influences, even though its not really appropriate for a stock height narrow wheeled granny chariot

It already looks ace on its current wheels, like the fuel cap. Did you consider already 185/60R13 or 205/60R13 tires? And btw, did somebody already mention to lower it?

Cheers guys
I'm not at all sure that it will keep the tread under the arches with 165 or 175's on there, its certainly not going to with 185 or 205's.
I was checking out the insurance at the wekend, to see how long I'm going to have to wait to bring it down. Its only bloody May, not March as I thought. Still I suppose that gives me plenty of time to sort out an adjustable panhard rod, coilovers, and maybe even a pie cut beam ;D

Good work on the 'stick Mark, that looks ace You can shortshift mod the stick really easily, brings the travel at that height back to an almost normal size gait.

What does that involve Ian, something like extending the pivot points below the ball joint a bit?

YAY! Someone else in the 'irresponsibly long shifter'-club! I was toying with a skateboard wheel for the suicide-shifter on my forthcoming Honda Cub Custom project.... Might have to call on you for a wee bit of machining

The ball at the bottom of the stick is nylon type stuff moulded onto to the stick. Remove your extension and the gaitor. With the car jacked up, from underneath take out the bolt at the bottom of the stick, let the shift rod drop. Undo the steady bar and mech off the rubber body mounts, let it drop down, bringing the stick down through the hole. On the top at the base of the stick are two bolts, removing these lets you remove the actual stick, put it loosely in a vice with the 'ball' resting on top and knock the stick down through it until it reaches the bend. Reassembly is the reverse of this process, greasing the ball and the bush at the bottom. Hey presto! Quick shift, or with your extension, normal sized gait

Ah, nice one. That's a neat and tidy solution. It's logged for when I have a bit of time in the near future. I need help, I just cant decide. Will this work with my wheels? Ok I don't have the splits, but I was thinking splitting the gold centre, black rim in the same place that I have split the black/sort of polished currently. I think gold may be the only colour that would work with the tourquoise metallic, and the black rims should be ok with so much black trim on the car. Do you think it will make the high profile tyres look enormous? The reason I'm considering a painted rim is that there is some damage to the dish of the slots, that would fill easily, but show up if polished. Maybe all gold would work? What do ya reckon?

What about a dark gunmetal or bronze all over the wheels? BUt, yes I think that colour combo would work as well.
I am really liking the idea of the higher profile bouncy tyres on this car with a bit of judicious stick action!
Did you know that an SR20 will go under the bonnet on one of these... ;D
Keep up the good work Mark!
Rysz.

There's lots that will fit under the bonnet! I'm not that fussed really with improving the performance. I might concider a cg13 but I'd rather spend on getting it to look the part. I had an idea for a new gear knob the other day. The plan was to layer up alturnate colours of acrylic disc, then machine and polish to form a nice shiney bar. Here it is after a first pass on the lathe And done, after the tapers were machined and many grades of wet and dry were worked through. It has not worked brilliantly, there is some residue from the polish that has worked its way between the layers. The machine screw in the top is because I made it with a hole all the way through so that I could support it on the tail stock. I tapped both ends so that one end can screw onto the shaft, the other has the machine screw. I might swap this for something more interesting, maybe an allen or torx head bolt. Any more comments on the wheel colour choices on the previous page greatfully appreciated.

Love the gear stick! As for the rims, black lips only work with serious dish, so I would say do it (but I'm currently on photoshop trying to colour your wheels ) So I'll let you know!
