My Monza had a trip computer and it was fairly accurate Normally achieving over 30 mpg at sensible crusing speeds and 14 mpg on track work When I fitted the 24V engine it was less accurate so i removed it and fitted a clock Brim filled 60 litres Plus 25 litres in fuel cans 7 miles to check nothing fell off or for funny noises after three days of prep 27 miles to track at steady 80 181 track miles at various speeds but pretty much hammer down all the time (added 25L of fuel from cans and purchased 20L of fuel from someone who no longer needed it and added that too) 27 miles to home at a steady 55mph (running on fumes) total 242 miles Fuel used 105 litres mpg 10.4 Value for money - priceless

Part of things
Don't like stretched tyres, very low profile tyres & I think a car CAN be too low. Perhaps I'm odd.

13.9? lighten that foot man, even I got more than that! Just. Deb once got 21 out of it. No idea how. Maybe a tune-up is due? Plugs, timing, etc.
anyhow, 13.9 should equate to at least 30mpg if you've found your gas sufficiently cheaply. Locally I'm paying 49.9 for gas compared to 107.9 for unleaded. That means the Lincoln does about 40mpg ;D

I was scandalised I had to pay 54.9p litre at the weekend having got caught short in Loughborough. I have a full set of service items, and a new starter motor (and guess what he old one has hardly stuttered since I bought that) but just not had time to fit them. I do a lot of city driving. I got 22 MPG out of the 2.0 Cortina so I reckon 14mpg is OK for something that size! Once serviced and all, I'm going to have the "MPG challenge" and see what I can get out of it for a giggle. Proper old lady driving stylie. I think I'm a bit "over enthusiastic" with my right foot...

My scirocco digital wotsit was great, using the good old calculator and brimming the tank I reckoned it was accurate to within 0.2mpg.
The one on the much newer vectra is random at best.... overall mpg seems more or less right once it's got about 100-150 miles 'stored', but the range to empty varies wildly. Turn engine on, it might say 220 miles. Drive to top of street (100 yards), 215. Turn corner, call in at Tesco (1 mile) - 203 miles. Then it'll start going back up! On journeys of less than 5 miles it's depressing, after that it seems to average out ok.

I was wondering if it was possible to get a good accurate fuel use system for a 80s/90s car. I thought it would be cool if I could get something that would give me states on average, trip, and right now fuel usage. Although what I'd really like is stuff that would map the journeys I take, and tell me which were the most fuel/time efficient.

The fuel trip computer in my old s2 RS Turbo would only go up to 216miles,o matter how much fuel you'd put in! It was also depressing watching the miles disappear when you lowered your right foot.Like a countdown!!!

What worries me is I seem to be putting £10's and £20's in to my 1.1 Fiesta like daily! still returning over 30MPG I suppose on its slightly excitable Weber ( ), but sure is scary (pizzing money out of my account!), wondering how I'll cope with the V8 at current climate. Having said that, cruising wont be a lot worse off. Plus I got conned into a Shell credit card yesterday when I was zombie like in teh petrol station, doesn't look bad though, offers 6% off for 60days and then 3% better than a poke in the eye! Big save will be being a BMX ride away from work again! Wooo bring on that V8! ;D (in progress)

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
