As an add on to my bus which has a propper readers ride thread, I am going to give a simple rundown, report of the camping trailer I am busy putting together for the Bus, and to be used over weekends etc. I have decided not to fit a kitchen to the bus, as I want space, and do not like the smell of cooked food in my "bedroom" I will rather make a decent sized bed for two, and then a simple set up for cooking water for tea and coffee on the move, not much more. I was looking for a trailer that runs on car wheels, 10" and more, up to 14" and the box had to be up to 5x4 foot. Richy246 on here, had me negotiate a deal with him, which included a whole Mars Bar, and one trip to Portsmouth/Gosport later , Iwas home at 8pm on Friday with my little 4x3 trailer, which I could honestly not even feel behind the car. On Saturday I used the pressure cleaner (another great tool) to clean it up, on all sides as it is easy to flip over one handedly. I left it in the company of two finned oil heaters for 24 hrs and then went to B&Q and my local camping shop to fetch bits , including new lights, and timber to make a 150mm high lid for it, which will get used as a table when opened completely. My gas stove, a 12volt cooler box water tank etc will go in there, and I plan on making a type of over the top gazebo for the whole thing to make it usefull in rainy weather. If anyone has a spare/unused gas stove, 2plate or more, and an old fridge/cooler box to sell, trade or whatever, please let me know. The plan is to seal the whole lot in the end with silicon, or similar, and then to paint it all, and get some offcut kitchen floor vinyl for the floor and sides. The outsides will be done in the same style as the Bus. ........................................Update after next weekend, as I am a bit/very busy till then.

child born out of wedlock photo, cannot get it to sit right, even after 4 edits. Clearly NOT what I am building, but beautiful none the less. Oh, and Dave... as long as you eat my Thai Green Chilly chicken, or Spicy sweet Prawns you are welcome at the table, or else it will be Kartoffelen salad for you, and some cold ham. ;D ;D

Not convinced on the checked roof, think plain white would be better but good work either way

It will evolve as time goes, still a significant time from paint. Needs a new motor befor e then, ie conversion to 2.0liter Zetec or such. Personaly,, I prefer the red roor, but the checks are cool as well, it is a matter of how one uses them. They can become cliche'd very quickly. Bit like Matt, ratlook etc..... done well it looks good, done inappropriately, it becomes rancid. Not convinced on the checked roof, think plain white would be better but good work either way

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Got started on this last night, thinking Iwas going to finish the lid and have it ready for paint by Saturday morning...... ermmm? No, not so. Ended up spending at least 90 minutes in the house and on the phone mostly to different people who I needed to deal with between 6 and 11pm At least got some of it done. More to come. Measure twice (or more times ;D ), Cut once . Works for me most of the time. No Helper, Forgot I had clamps..... Health and Safety .... ermm, No. Laid out. Holes, holes and more holes.... screws, screws etc.... Trial fit, looks OK so far, many more holes in the top, to make sure it is structurally cross braced. Hinges recessed,(too much ?) maybe a matter of should have checked again... will do so tonight Hope to fit hinges to body, fix lid top and check for free support strength. May have to go back to hinges and use Gutter bolts, through the top. Will use very long screws for the sides, and may also add a side support strip of steel to prevent the whole lot ripping out. Then make a sturdy lifting handle, and a pair of upright supports, for loading and messing about inside.

Updated Photoshop pics by Mike. Now I want to go travel. Better get on with the work then I guess. Smell the fresh air. Out to the garage, as soon as I have warmed my dinner and had it.

Seth, Reanimation..... Thank goodness for time delay photography. With the ballet pic, I clearly just missed getting the flying sawdust in the pic. Mickeytaker, you may be surprised to know that until a few years ago (OK, make that a few more ) I was double jointed enough to put one foot/leg behind my head, standing as a party trick, and if I sat on me arrse, I could hook both feet behind my head. From diving, and watersports (sounds like a theme developing) I could at one stage hold my breath comfortably for 3 1/2 minutes I often use all limbs to help , as I do most stuff on my own. Quality work, and action pics!

Last night.... preparation is paramount. Today I needed the lid off again to fetch more wood, so I nailed it int the top edge of the trailer ;D Must have looked quite scary on the M25 with very little holding the boards down.

Went to B&Q to buy a 3x7 shed today, but after a weekend that included 400 miles and very little sleep, I decided not to assemble it yet. Plan is to move all the spares, including the engine a dn gearbox in there. Has a double door. Have to say that for Β£160, you do not get much...... Even the floor is made of thin tongue and groove planks. But it has to beat falling over stuff in the garage. Bloody heavy too, took four of us to get it loaded at B&Q, and then I unloaded it bit by bit, into the garage, as I did not want it soaked until it has been assembled. The sheet of 18mm ply I got from Disasterbus yesterday , will be cut to size for the floor, then you can throw pretty much anything at it. The rest will become shelves. Little trailer has worked this weekend. Started cleaning up the handles and painted them in Black Hammerite tonight, they will go on the lid of the camping trailer. More Hammerite Black smooth, this time on the wheels. First coat of paint on. Loads of little jobs to do at the moment.

Spent 4 hours in the garage tonight, and do not have much to show for it, but I was on the go non stop. Last nights cleaned and painted handles for the lid..... Hammerite smooth Completely Hammerited the bottom of the trailer and all steel as well tonight. Ended up taking the mudguards off, but to do that the wheels have to come off..... found the one tyre to be lacking in the safety department, so will replace it, also cleaned all the grease out, and will repack with grease when tyre has been replaced. Taking mudguards off also aids a clean finish with the painting. Last job for tonight was to seal the whole thing so as to be able to row it down the river.
