Well it's nearing completion, hopefully rolling next week. Started off as this- all lovely but a bit smoky and in need of a tidy up. So what to do? Well I fancied a cafe racer, but I am large, so a more flattering option ended up being a flat track racer. Advantages of this are that they still race them in the US so parts were easy to pick up. Already had the seat unit from a previous project...widened it a little.. Sourced a rather sexy pipe from the US... Then a lovely box of parts from Megacycle in the US turned up; TT grind cam, vernier timing sprocket, Ti Top R&D heavy duty valve springs, Wiseco 10:1 piston...engine got a rebore and new parts fitted. I used a copper head gasket from a chap in the States, and an aluminium spacer under the base gasket as the aftermarket was undersize and there were piston/valve clearance issues. Engine is now all together and painted, waiting on stainless bolts. Frame is painted, wheels and forks are all ready. Bodywork is done... Pretty chuffed for my first go with candy. Should be assmebled soon. I can't wait.

Began build up tonight, looking good if I do say so myself The paint now has clear coat on so looks better than in the pics. Yellow bike in the background is my '94 Speed Triple. Proudly wearing a BMW R90S fairing. At the moment it is suffering from a bout of 'curse word-in-carbs' and needs them stripping and cleaning this weekend.

COOOLIO love them flat-track seat units as much as I love the latest 180 horsepower sportsbikes (OMG !just how fast can a bike accelerate!!)....this would still be the one I'd be looking over at a bike meet ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The bars always provoke discussion Rear shocks are Showas from a CB400 superfour. Yup it is fun to ride. Needs the gearing sorting out and I think I will retard the cam timing as I set it up to run @ 9' advance. It takes off like a two stroke when it comes on cam, but I want a bit more torque.
