did you say parts for sale? Is that me or Rob0r? If its me then yes, i've almost always got a box of spare mountain bike bits :-) Just noticed the cranks on the Kona - very nice Next LP's (IIRC) shame there is no disc mount on the fork really Modified because i quoted the wrong bit!

Oh, anyone really! ;D I'll have to send you a PM. The Kona is a bit newer than those I was dribbling over in 91/92 but still the same deal i'm sure, is it Cromo, or are we onto Ally? looks a little chunky

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Better specs can be found here cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140208062498 I was actually hoping for an older Kona, some like a 97-98 Lavadome and I have a nice set of 98 Z1 bams to go on one. This one came up at a lovely price, I put in a bid expecting it to be a lot more for the spec and I won . Doesn't matter too much about the lack of disc mounts since they're XTR v-brakes so I won't change them for a while anyway. If I do this coast to coast cycle I'll be at least adding gears and the Z1 bams anyway. After years of heavy weight tanks, it'll be a fresh change for once! Tim - Your build sounds sweet. I've thought of caddys for bikes before, but they're getting a bit pricey for my liking. I've got a Defender 90 for bike duties. Rean - Good to hear! Sounds like it'll be a sweet bike. Parts... If I split my bighit I'll have the frame (with a sun doubletrack on sealed hub with the correct spacing, seatpost, clamp), boxxer forks (with correct hope E4 to go with), hope headset, Shimano saint cranks, Evil DRS chain guide (modified to fit onto the bighit but works perfectly), a set of DMR DV 24" wheels on hope bulb/DMR revolver hubs, world force stem etc etc. I'll probably let a set of Planet X BMFs 26" on matching hope bulbs front and rear in MINT condition go to (rear rebuilt with new spokes after the spokes bust on the first post of this topic) I'll be keeping the rear brake, gears and bars at least since they're too useful! If you need anything in particular I might have something... Cheers

Woah looking at the spec and RRP of the bits, that was a bit of a steal! Nice one, a propper cross country bike realy appeals too, maybe its cos its so unfashionable, no its cos XC rocks, miss it.

Oh no, I went on a nice cross country ride the other day. I have a few bikes, and just use one over a period of time, the rest just languish in the shed! Some newer pics of the Kona, rigidness was too much for me though vintage Z1 bams

I've lost my brake studs for the forks. With the bridle paths around loughborough being incredibly rocky I'd rather run forks than a front brake!

I have a few spare somewhere i can stick in post, not sure what thread size/pitch you need though
I'd rather run a front brake, rear brake wont stop me quick enough :-)

Yup Some kid i went to school with bought a set on his mums credit card just after they came out the original ones this is, not the BAMS - the ones with twin disc mounts for the cullinan setup that barely ever sold :-)

I knew a kid who had some out in Les Gets and they were rediculous. Amazing setup, but stupid below 30mph.

Only saw a couple of sets. Just seemed overkill really and soon disappeared as other brakes got better.
The original prototype shimano dh brakes used twin discs on one side of the wheel with "big mac" type caliper and water cooling from a resevoir under the saddle, but didnt make it past the prototype stage :-)
