Nice! Tioga 2.3s rock my world. I wonder if you can still get 'em?
I might have an old, sorry, period, XT mech lying about if you want? I'll have a search in the garage.

That's looking shexay! What's the frame like? I've just found out my bike was given to the local charity shop after I left it in the Halls bike sheds for too long That means since starting uni last September I've lost 3 bikes, and only ridden off road once R.I.P semi-pimped hardrock and trek 4500

the frame is mint, havent received my intense yet which is quite worrying when I'm riding Ae forrest next weekend on it!
surely its a bit out of order they just donate your bike like that? can they even do that?

WHEYY, other people into Mountainbiking too! I've been riding DH for 7 or so years now, for the last 3 on my brooklyn racelink.. I LOVE this bike, but alas i went out to france for a month this summer on my yearly riding trip and on the second day......cracked my frame Picture above was in my student house before i left for france... 3 days later it was cracked! But i got it VERY dodgily rewelded at a random place called the "foundry" in Morzine, and carried on riding it for the next month! In the course of that month my bike became the shonkiest brooklyn ever! It finished the month: -Re-welded -Heavily dented front triangle thanks to a 40mph off in switzerland -No oil in the compression side of my forks -Cracked CROWNs (found when i got home :S) -Wheels which were so banana'd that i began to have vibration problems over 30mph! -Most importantly...singlespeed! my Sram mech exploded one day (at a very inopertune moment...causing both the dented front triangle and the banana wheels!) If anyone is interested i shall take some pictures of it's rebuild! (when i have the money!.....£400 for a new front end! + another 500 or so for other parts ive broken!

-Heavily dented front triangle thanks to a 40mph off in switzerland Yoiks! 40mph on a pedelly bike off road!! Your bike looks proper hardcore ghettoeddie - shame it got abit trashed on your travels - but I guess thats what they are for Gofasterpinch - your bike is looking very sexy with its new bits I actually like a spot of cycling myself - but certainly not into the hardcore downhill or more extreme mountainbiking that you & Gofasterpinch enjoy. I ride a bike I built up from a Halfords budget spec full suspension bike & the good parts from an old 90s Raleigh MTB - it weighs a ton but I manage to keep up with my mate's on much more expensive machinery on some gentle (& some less than gentle) local trails - my main problem however is the lack of ground clearance to the crank & hence pedals. Because of this & the fact I want to make the most of the 'Bike to work' scheme I've been looking for a new bike. Your bikes are obviously very nice but also expensive - do you think that with bike parts, the law of deminishing returns applies i.e so much money gets a good bike but spend quite alot more only gets you a bike that in terms of performance is marginally better? I've been looking at a couple of hardtails with 'V' brakes for around £500, I figure this is going to give me a decent bike for what I want to use it for (I would like V brakes so I can swap with my current wheels with road tyres on - as these arn't setup for disks, also at this price range, V brakes are better than the disk set-up you'd get?) What do you guys think?

Wow you guys realy know how to break bikes! Brooklyns are nails hard! I think I have seen that famous guy who imports em blasting through Chorlton! maybe a lookalikee! --- Seems like theres some good bikes to be got for sub £500 these days (intersting feature in Nov MBUK mag), I spent £900 2 or 3 years or so ago on my Dr Jekll in an attempt to get a jack of all trades off roader with good forks and hydro disc brakes. after a seeming year out, these kind of bikes are being made quite affordable. One thing I will say though, keep in mind what you want the bike for, theres a lot of heavier jumpy type bikes about. lemme know if you need help. you can do worse than check out the magazines and some heavy research, and try companies like merlin and ediburgh cycles. HTH

That would be the lovely chappie Ged, next time you see him around just grab him and chat to him about bikes...lovely chap! He's bald and scary looking but not atall to talk to! Hard as nails...hardly.. Its the only bike ive cracked over 3 times now! but that may be due to my riding style! old style santa cruz v10's however... they are harder than titanium!

Eddie, yeah Ged rings a bell! My mate loves Brooklyns and mentioned him, photofit fits! Santa Cruz may be next if i ever upgrade. Chameleon (too late to spell - i can spell it honest!) or some suspension effort. ? Dan they look good at first look, its a good time to buy BTW with next years kit coming up! Keep the quality builds coming GFP

Oh god more potential spend/project! ;D My mates back home are mad on big suspension now, 24" wheels and big fat tyres! ;D part of me wants to go this route in the future, and use the suspension to fearlessly take on all desents and lump/bumps (they are so forgiving). Part of me wants to keep it real, my Dr Jekyll is pretty decent good downhill stance and not too heavy, not a bad allrounder, just I occasionally fancy something slightly more XC friendly! The big sus bikes are heavy clunky lay back overkill machines, so I'm keen to stick with hard tail for now. No idea if a Chameleon, cove stiffee, or similar bike will be better for me. guess its all trial and error. must get out and collar some owners for a go!!
