Here ya go heres the bare bones of what i intend to do. Still parts to collect at this stage. And we have no mig gas at school so can't start the fabrication till after April 1. That still gives me four months so i should get it built even at the rate i get round to doing things! This is what i have so far: X2 Just had these delivered from a firm on ebay, bought two because i wanted matching frames, i'd decided that that would be very difficult buying second hand, was looking for kids full suspension bikes but they were all too pricey. Eventually found these BMX's ended up paying £90 for the two bikes, quite pricy but i recon i would probably have spent that much on collecting bits from various sources, also means i have matching wheels etc. It would hurt my head if these things didnt match and the idea i have for making the racer will be much easier with matching frames, and i don't have to chop up my bike. They are going to look pretty trick, with cable disks at both ends (I know from previous experience that these aren't anything like as efficient as well set up v-brakes) but they do look cool! The plan is that i'll weld cross members between the two frames to create a four wheeled vehicle. There will be two main cross members, one at the head tube, and one at the bottom bracket. I'll sit as low as possible behind the Bottom bracket cross member, there will be more tube extending out from the top of the seat tube area to support the seat back. Not sure if i'm going to use a grp seat that we have (lots of holes already) or maybe use a hammock style seat. The two head sets will be joined with a cross link, and then a bell crank on the steering column will link to one headset to operate the steering front forks. I'll get the parts from the bikes i don't need (stunt pegs, pedals, crank, gyro parts) on the bay to try and claw back some of the pound notes spent of the frames. I'd also like to try and find some slick tyres as the knobblys the bikes came with will have greater resistance.

My brain is working on it. saw a well good one the other day built by some uni studants and they had some kind of funky ceramic wheels which i bet cost about a billion££ but it was nice looking. Mine needs whitewalls tho!!! Is there going to be alot of corners involved or is it a fairly straight hill?

Hill is relatively straight,.. figured there would be a fair few first timers so didn't want to make the whole thing ridiculously twisty and risk injury. That having been said there are going to be corners,.. and you won't all be able to fit across the width of the track, so good steering would be most useful

The direct link works a treat. I've been trying to get to that download page for ages, but I've just worked out that's impossible if you have a script blocker like I do.

Thats current actual school equipment in the background, I'm a Design and Technology teacher, the bikes are currently languishing at the back of my workshop. Just found this for budding soapbox builders, wish i had seen it before, cant really justify more wheels but i'm going to bid anyway ;D E-bay 144 spoke wheels

Sorry, just re-read my earlier post i said it was a school workshop there. It is indeed rather cool having a free workshop. We have a Canadian exchange teacher in the department at the mo who teaches motor vehical courses at home, his workshop area has two twin post ramps!!!! Might have a little play tomorrow, but i have an absolute f*ck load of actual school work to do there.

curse word, I've just realised, those 144 spoke wheels have no mounting for the disks on the hubs, and i have already bid on them.

Street, if i win them i'd like to keep the tyres for my wheels and you can have the wheels for the cost of the postage. At the mo i am winning the four i need for less than the price of the tyres separately, which i have been considering getting since i won the bikes. Everyone will be a winner.

Ha, nah, I got three cars to build! Big Matt might, though. Get him to nail something together. Although, he once told me that he doesn't like the sensation of going down a hill fast. This could be a hindrance...
Sorry for lax reply - only just checked this thread.
