Edit, I have a few other 190s to post about now that I've had over the years, so rather than start a new thread, I'll run them on from this one. So, going aaaaalllll the way back to 2008... Here's the latest daily driver, something tough and reliable to save the Allegro from dissolving in this weather! An unusual colour for a 190, I don't think Brown was a fashionable colour in 1993! Perfect colour scheme for a fan of 1970's British Leyland tat like myself though ;D A quick weekend of cleaning, a sprinkling of euro plates and a slight bat off the lowering stick and the car now looks this: For a total outlay of about a grand, I'm quite chuffed with it.

Seriously cool and the brown, though unusual, is actually a colour that has not aged on the car. Put that next to a white one and see which looks best.

Awwww cheers guys! Must admit I got a shock when I first saw the colour as I bought the car off fleabay and in the photos it looked Bornite (that nice browny purple pearlescent colour) but I must admit that it's grown on me and it was a bonus to discover that with the colour came bodywork that was absolutely free from grot and 'loy! As Grizz says, it compares well with the common 190 colours. Looking for a set of 16" 8-holes from an SL next, or a set of AMG monos in Black with polished rims.

Right, a couple of recent small mods; I recently bolted on a set of fairly rare Lorinser 7X15" alloys, in the style of the OE Cosworth style 15 hole wheels, but with a bit more dish and polished rims. 80's tastic! With the all clear front lamps, the standard red/amber tail lights weren't really cutting it so I added a pair of MHW German smoked clusters. Job done!

Sadly not a leather interior, the only leather item is the gearshift gaiter Nice clean cream cloth though, and at least it has a few extras, rear headrests, front armrest, extended taxi console and still on the original Blaupunkt crackle box stereo! (plays mp3s okay tho...)

Well, not much done on the car lately. Lately I've had a few plans regarding ride height, I really need to get hold of a decent suspension kit to get that back end down a bit! The Lorinsers also need a refurb, I've been thinking of silver rims and body colour centres for that 80's yuppie car look! Sadly I've had to concentrate on bodywork first... I went out to my car one morning after it had been left outside a mate's house to find the rear quarter had been stoved in... I did the usual trick of getting the inner panels out and giving the panel a good bang. Managed to get the swages back in line bit this was as good as I could get it by hand... img217.imageshack.us/img217/1086/image000dq1.jpgAs a temporary measure me and my brother managed to effect a "reasonable" repair with the aid of a large hammer, a "minimal" amount of clag and an aerosol of my local factor's finest 475 Nutria metallic... img178.imageshack.us/img178/5492/image040lf1.jpgimg171.imageshack.us/img171/2811/image041000bk5.jpgimg149.imageshack.us/img149/416/image035wi6.jpgThe final result, a bit matt and a bit bumpy from some angles but a large amount of cutting compound and skin from my fingertips soon saw to that! I couldn't be pestered with clearcoating it because I knew it'd be getting done properly and it'd only have to come off again. img300.imageshack.us/img300/1777/image011vo5.jpg

Well all this was very good! Considering the above body repair was done on a freezing windswept driveway on the coldest weekend of the year (we had to use a hairdryer to get the filler to dry... ;D)...and the car was getting used every day so it was so filthy most of the time you couldn't even see the damaged panel but the rear quarter was still letting the side down I thought, so started thinking of getting a "proper" job done. I eventually found a good old fashioned "two blokes with 40 years experience each, working out of a dilapidated old unit so good and cheap" outfit and let them loose on it! I was more than chuffed with the results... For the rear quarter bare metalled, beaten out properly, and the whole quarter sprayed and clearcoated- £150!!! Oh the joys of living in the impoverished North East! ;D Our driveway just doesn't look the same though without the Allegro, I miss that car....need something old and BL again!

Very opulent in that colour - I do actually quite like it. Mind you, I have a real soft spot for those 70s shades - and hey, they're all making a comeback. Aren't they?

Well, not been on here for a while! The Allegro has gone, now owned by and undergoing a "bit of tidying" by my best mate Dave, also known on here as exminiman. My lovely Brown 190E has also gone to a good home. So what would be the best choice for a replacement for a Brown 1993 190? How about a slightly less Brown 1992 190E? A bit special this one though, a genuine factory sportline model, and unlike the last one, this one has leather! This is how it was when it was bought, pretty tidy, but the nsf wing wasn't looking too clever... However, it drove spot on (and still does!) and the leather is to die for! About the mintiest 190 leather I've seen. So, come the winter and MOT time. The "surface rust" on the wing had gone "nasty", Fortunately, a fellow member on mercedes190.co.uk was breaking another 190 in the same colour and the front wings were mint. So Santa had a job getting this down the chimney... ;D Over to Dave's (exminiman), frozen hands ahoy... Crusty wing begone... New one on... All better now, snow and salt do your worst on this wing! Next, for the MOT, a quick look underneath revealed a couple of holes where the drain grommets in the sills go. A common 190 problem (my last one went here as well), usually the nearby jacking points go as well, especially on lowered 190s , as speed bumps rip out the rubber grommets, allowing grot to set in, so back over to Dave's then and his trusty (not very) welder... A good afternoon's welding, and grinding, kurusting and undersealing of the remaining jacking points and drain holes and all was right again! Freshly MOT'd, the car ploughed on through the winter as old Mercs do. Once the weather improved, it got a good ol' clean up using many of AutoGlym's finest paint restoring and shinying up products. And even though they cost a ridiculous amount from the MB stealership, I had to add the sportline wing badges, just to set it all off! So that's how she looks so far. The colour is Bornite, a strange mix of Brown and Purple, sounds like it shouldn't work, but it really does! Quite a rare colour, only made by MB between '91 and '93. The trump card with this car is the sportline chassis pack. More than just the average shortened springs job, it featured Bilstein-sourced sports gas shocks, MBs own lowered and uprated springs, thicker anti roll bars, harder bushes all round and a slighly quicker ratio steering box. A set of 15" 15 hole alloys as fitted to the 2.3/2.5 16V models completed the package. Very effective, as you would expect as a £1200 option back in '92! A lot of people went for the sportline interior as well, with the 2+2 bolstered front and rear seats, but the first owner of this car went for the LUX pack (ABS, leccy windows all round and leccy sunroof) and full leather with the optional front armrest and rear headrests. Along with the Blaupunkt stereo (still fitted and working!), fischer tape storage (very 80s), headlight wash/wipe (recently made to work again, a very cool toy!) and Zender spoiler, the total options on this car came to a cool £6500! You could have bought a new small car back then! Hope you like

The 93 Brown is probably even more of a rarer colour than the 92 one - as it is the first i have seen Lots of 93 are LE models - but i assume that one isn't Leather will be mainly fitted at extra cost on Cosworth and 2.6s

That's a very nice clean 190 you got there. Very nice cars, i love mine. Not too big, comfy surprisingly reasonable to maintain and get spares for and not too bad on fuel either. A very good choice for a daily cos these things do seem to just keep going. - the automotive equivalent of the energizer bunny, but without the urge to cave It's head in !

It was only made for one year and I don't think uptake was that big on it, not a fashionable colour in those days! I learnt that the car sat in the dealers for quite a while before it found it's first owner, which is why it didn't get registered till '93! Yes, it's usually the higher powered cars that got all the toys, a lot of 1.8s and 2.0s got wind up windows, steel wheels and trims, etc. Which is why I snapped this one up when I had the chance, I don't think I've seen another 2.0 with headlight wash/wipe either...

Of course it still has a tapedeck... It's always been a habit of mine to keep the stereo equipment original in my old Mercs, so the Blaupunkt Casablanca and Blue Magic speakers are still proudly in there! Okay so sound quality isn't the best, but it looks good... And I get to play my favourite old school tapes as well.... I've had a look at your ex-190, lovely car. I remember it when Topi had it, no wonder you miss it.

Saw your car in the Retro show pics on the 190 forum, looking good, nice and low. And I've alays liked that front bumper! I know what you mean about 190s, this is my third one now, and I've got an itch to try a 2.6 soon. I totally agree, these cars are perfect dailies.
