Ok quick update, I've had to strip the cam carrier off as it leaked big time and chucked oil everywhere. Upon putting it back together again I somehow managed to snap a bolt in the head. Grrrrrr was so curse word with it. Took the carrier back off to find it had snapped flush in the head. To my surprise though it came out easily and have since got another gasket and bolt to replace the snapped one. So back at it tomorrow and hopefully get it up and running. Also managed to pick up a pair of 40 Webber carbs for it, just need a manifold to suit my engine if anybody knows to one going cheap. I'll post more updates over the weekend on the car that just keeps biting back and didn't want to go on the road. Trying my patience at the moment .........

Ok back up and running, slight oil leak on the cam box gasket but not to fussed about that. Need to sort a decent Webber carb now as the one I'm using is so bad it only runs on full choke and won't Rev. Think the jets are really badly worn or just useless. Tided the engine bay a little bit and next is carb then bonnet back on after 10 months of being off and hopefully back on the road. Feeling confident this time and fingers crossed it will be fine. Got to get it done soon as the not is out in September so need to sort it quickly.

Quick update , put the front end back together with grille and bumper and the bonnet which has been off since last September when it broke down. Put a wood rimmed steering wheel on and just general bits and bobs. Still desperately trying to find a carb to fit the manifold but eBay ones seem to go beyond my budget. Thanks for the input , I'm going to wait now until one falls in my lap, no rush as I'm going to finish the rest of the car first. Bodywork which to be fair isn't a lot. The front wing needs filling and finishing off and the rear by the drivers side back light. Inside I'm painting the door tops and sorting the scruffy dash out. Ive got a hankering for a ford 100e now so I'm undecided in selling this to find one of those. So do I give up on the car I've had for ten years next month or keep at it. This car has been the Bain of my life for a decade now and getting an itch I need to scratch with a 100e. Not too sure where I'll end up with the thinking yet but until then I'm getting the firenza road ready, or at least near road ready.

Going to get it just how I want it and have another think.

Quick update, gave up on finding a carb so bolted the twin strombergs back on in the hope of tuning them. To my surprise it ran and quiet well considering. Revs freely and sounds well. So just got to set the timing up a bit and fingers crossed all ok. No oil leaks and the head gasket seems to be holding out. Just got to find the bits I've taken off like the bonnet catch and a few other bits to find and hopfuly be ready. Mot runs out next week and for some reason the taxation class is disabled so I can't tax it again. Mot again and back on the road. Oh and it's ten years next month that I've owned this thing, longest I've had a car.

usual way is to cut the old arch out, repair the inner arch then weld the new outer arch in place. Bear in mind you don't need to use the entire arch, on this I would try to keep the repair below the belt line.
You do need to be careful with the welding though, it's easy for the body side to distort and end up looking like the north sea!

Rear arches have been done along with fronts it's just tidying up now. Arches were done about 6 years ago and still look good. Front was only a repair and need skimmed with filler to sort it out.

Ok got a quick update, put everything back together and finally I got to take it out round the block for a quick run. Went well and has a tail happy rear, but sounds too loud. So next is to quieten it down a bit. Engine seems happy and revs freely on the old strombergs. Having a lot of people telling me to red top it and ditch the slant engine but I'd prefer to keep her standard as I think it's going to be worth more when it's finished. I'd love to do it and it has been on my mind for a while now but just too much money and not enough time or skills to do it. So I'll stick with the engine I've had so much fun with for the past twelve months. I'm currently between jobs again and finding time to sort little jobs out like painting the door tops and tidying the interior trim up, makes a big difference when you look inside the car now. Owned this car for ten years now and it's never stopped giving me grief but I love the old thing and I'll finish it soon.

Ok quick one, finally managed to win a weber carb on eBay only to have the guy I bought it from mess me around. Paid for it the moment I won it and have no delivery even though it was two weeks ago. Won't refund my money either after admitting that he had forgot to post it last week. So another set back and £70 out of pocket so far. Got to go through eBay now to get my cash back. Not too happy with the guy as he swears he's sent it last Monday now and so far nothing. So no real progress since the last post.

Ok finally received the weber 38 dgas from the guy off eBay. Fitted with no problems until the throttle cable decided to be about 4 inches too short. After much head scratching and coffee breaks I decided to use the inner of the choke cable, worked a treat and gave me the extra I needed. Next issue was how to connect it to the carb. The carb has a ball socket for a rod but after more coffee I decided to drill a small hole in it and feed the cable through it. Happy days it worked much to my surprise. Just got to figure out the automatic choke now and sort that but should be no problem. In true firenza style though it did run out of fuel but luckily still in the garage. More tuning and bits to sort like the pipe for the servo pipe as I need an angled adaptor to get it on without fouling the carb throttle arm. More to follow as soon as I get more done.

Ok managed to get the servo pipe screwed into the inlet manifold with a slight modification to the throttle linkage. Tryed to start the thing and nothing. I've got a spark fuel and everything's fine just won't run. Really had it now , considering selling it as I'm at a massive brick wall again and I can't do it anymore. It's fighting at every turn now and trying my patience. My dad is down next weekend so I'm going to let him see if he can see somthing I can't see. Until then I'm just going to leave it in the garage to think about what to do with it.
