Up until a few weekends ago, I had a 1.4 k series in, but upon the purchase of a new 1.8VVC jobby its soon going to have a bit more grunt. Its not a straight swap, but it should be well doable before the summer comes. Currently totally stripped out to the subframe up front, I'm in the process of repainting and tidying bits up. Sump of the new engine and the intake manifold, coolant out, exhaust manifold, alternator braket etc need modifying to fit along with the engine mounts, as its a bit snug with even the 1.4 in. Ill be running a short FEAD, and straight through exhaust...so just over 160 brake..650kg, as the new engine is much lighter than the A series I believe makes it around 250-260 bhp/tonne. Its on Revolutions and scarily original brakes, and adjustable hi-los. Other than that its pretty standard. Think ill squeeze some four pots in and some Gaz adjustable shocks sometime after the transfer just so I don't end up in a hedge too soon. ..for those that don't like the rather large front splitter, its not brilliant I know, but its to cover the unfortunate protrusion of the modified subframe. If any one has any better ideas let me know... Hope you like it! Ill get some better pictures up next time its a nice day This was a cheeky trial fit, see where the new engine would foul...Turns out quite a bit of foul-age!

Yaha, its custom. Its just glassed into the arches. Was thinking if trying some kind of aluminium sump guard that protrudes and bends up a bit to cover the subframe, could look better, could look worse. Like this www.7ent.com/images2/stf0042.JPG

Nice looking mini. I do like the 1275GT look and glad you kept it standard looking with the door grpahics. A 1.8 VVC mini will be insane, a 1.8 non vvc metro isn't slow!

Brilliant conversion, all the best with it. Ive seen the lower panel pulled forward to let the subframe fit, most people never notice.

K series mini's rule!!! the torque of the 1.8 is fantastic and 160bhp is a lot in a mini! (mine has 165 and i struggle to keep it in a straight line)

That's awesome, I think the front splitter makes it - it looks like some sort of '70s saloon racer ;D Looking forward to seeing this progress

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Awesome, glad you guys like it, ill update with a few more pics as and when it progresses. Liking the look of the mini-malistic engine bay that gazwad has gone for...i feel a lot more tidying and polishing going on.
So with 165 brake what kind of performance do you get. Mine was pretty lively with 105 brake in the 1.4.... youve embarrassed a few 'Ahem 3' drivers no?
What do you guys reckon about torque steer? Its a few months away, but me shafts are pretty un-even in length. One of my few worries...

the performance is excellent, i don't really 'race' other cars i just do my own thing but so far i've annoyed a seat leon 1.8T (225bhp) who tried to keep up with me, and my mate couldn't catch me in his series 1 elise!. torque steer is a bit of an issue as is traction but it makes it more fun!!!

The torque steer is only really a problem with bad geometry. Get the front low, and the camber right, and it should be fine.
To stop the subby sticking out.. You should go for a tubular exhaust manifold (as I see you are fitting) and probably change the downpipe too for more clearance. Then chop the front of the subby off, and weld on another bar a bit further back.
The VTEC minis have the same problem, the exhaust manifold sticks out of the grille a bit.
If you need even more room, you can relocate the alternator to behind the engine, just infront of your master cylinders, but facing the opposite way round to normal to clear the inlet manifold.
You can also go for a remote oil filter housing too. Plenty of room for it in the wings.

Nice car mate. I do like the front splitter, makes it look really fierce, and 160 should be pretty crazy!

my k series (1.4 gti engine on weber 45's) mini had a remote oil filter housing the exhaust used to glow red thru the grille, to say it wheel spun is an understatment, you'd put your foot down the revs would hit the red line (7700RPM) then you'd wait for the road to catch up

Quick update, me and anders got some time to work on it on saturday (cracking weather). First port of call was down to a workshop to drill out the bolt holes in the 1.4 sump to accept the bigger bolts that the 1.8 sump/block takes. Gave the manifold a bead-blast whilst there and sprayed it up with the lairiest shade of dayglo red I have ever seen, I reckon he should make the engine bay a copy of stantons golf with camp camo everywhere. Then back to his garage to crack on with some tasks. We got the engine mounted in and bolted, all the gearbox mounts are also bolted up, got the driveshafts in and bolted all the hubs etc on so it's now rolling and steering again, got the exhaust on and I think that's it, I'm sure anders will correct me if there's anything we've missed. Anyhoo pics, or it didn't happen right? Whoozat? Whooozat? It's panders getting the back gearbox mount to line up (total PITA) Engine all mounted in. Engine now with some exhaust-age attached, and all the suspension/steering n stuff on:

..and the gear select works Tig...
I'm looking to remove the front splitter, ive gone off it. It was originally just a glass fibre spoiler from the back of a hi-lux truckman top.
If Pies mate can wait ill be popping it off and hes welcome to it. It just glassed on.
Glad you guys lke the car, now its rolling again and the suns out i think work will progress quickly. Just a bit of jiggery pokery with the coolant system and the wiring.
...quicker if any one has or knows of a TF or ZR 160 ECU going a begging.
