Thanks Aux. Couple of pics on latest bits. Weather is really not letting me get to the bus the way I want to. So doing other bits. Roof where the holes were for the lights, sirens etc.... welded up by Oldbus in 2007. This will end up being lined and upholstered. Hammerite time !! Also added Honorary FOMOCO Wrecking Crew stickers. Frog from Nicola to drive as crash test dummy on front dash doing the inspection. And lastly, have started to make up a toolbox for survival of the bus as well. Skip find, some stickers, and away we go. The Skimmer board was a £1.00 find at yesterdays Boot Fair. I will be using that as the camping table top for the bus when we are at shows.

Grizz,
I like the chequered pic with red writing much better than your first pic. Think the one you have pasted on the roof with the dino looks a bit too much, it kind of takes away from the dinos on the side (from that angle anyway) which look fantastic
Think the whole scheme looks really good, any timescales on when the paint is going on? I think this van looks brilliant!
Barry
p.s. good work on the kitchen!

I think this van looks brilliant! Barry p.s. good work on the kitchen! Barry, I would say that the paint will not happen until after midyear 2010. Basically want this year and next year to play. Then paint it myself when it comes off the road. And in winter 2010 after the paint it may be transported out the country to an ace engineer and mechanic for a V6 conversion. Currently my problem lies with the fact that the bus will not fit into the front lower end of the garage, let alone have space to really work on it. I need to draw up plans sometime for the council to show my proposed 3foot raising of the roof, and replacement of the asbestos sheets. I want a decent roller shutter door to at least try keep nosey scrotes out. Currently my garage door on the left is this high, so bus parks behind under an all weather cover. This has to be a hobby to me, with life being lived inbetween. Thanks for the comments on the kitchen, perfect holiday for me. Bought this on impulse today, not sure if I overpaid, or not, but I wanted it for myself, as I have seen them before and really liked them, so chance came to buy one out of a VW camper.... and I did. Now need one or two ther pieces of useless tut to go with it and the old Alpine skis I have in the loft.

V6 conversion!!!! I like it...........would it be going out of the country to a certain man with an "oldbus"??
I totally get what you mean about playing with it. When I was doing the mini, I couldn't wait to get the paint, alloys and chrome on. I thought this would be the best bit but actually it kind of was an anticlimax and I lost interest thereafter!
Top thread keep it up!

Top thread keep it up! NOPE.... Bzzzzz , Wrong. But he is related to Oldbus, in that he is Oldbus' consultant too. And a propper engineer type mechanic. He may never get around to it, as this is still only just a thought out there in the ether..... And he has so much to do at all times, that an extra job may end up out of the question. Which means it could end up being done here in the UK. Know what you mean about anticlimax.... had that when I built a few things in the past.

See you soon Hallo Thorsten, I saw you in Kai Pfeffer's FK, in a magazine..... Will buy you a copy next week and post it to you... Famous man from Kassel. I am sure I will not be able to resist the wheels once I have the number plates for the bus.... ;D I was checking which of my 5 x 205 VW wheels I am going to make the spare wheel this afternoon.

GREASE NIPPLES ;D ;D ;D ;DLoads of them under the bus. I had the bus up this afternoon and greased all the points I could find, not sure how many, but many. Lubrication is probably one of the most important parts of these old busses' upkeep. Oldbus warned me in no uncertain terms to grease up regularly. I had what seems to be the lubrication plan, but interpretation was a bit difficult. Hope Dave points out just how many points I should have attended to. And up .... Ms Grizz got a hold of the camera too.... loves me in compromised positions. AND IN OTHER NEWS: ALDI had a sale again this week, so for under £30.00 I bought all these bits, to make up a dedicated toolbox for the bus, along with duct tape, WD40, a thrashing tool, cable ties and other bits like a spare complete fuse box. Added them to the toolbox I found over Christmas on the pavement. Been planning this add on room or tent since last year, then the price was £140, now it is £199 .... blame the Chinese Adds to the rear or side of the bus, attached to the roofrack, or free standng, also has a large 2 man tent that fits inside it, so room, gazzebo and tent all in one. Best of all, it is 8foot x 8 foot, and also 8foot tall, so the german contingent should fit. Lastly, bought another 2 plate cooker and grill for £10 at my almost local MOT station, ex-BT fleet vehichle interior equipment. half an hour and some Cif later we have a decent little stove. I had one before that DisasterBus now has, and then I could not get one for a long time, now got one for myself And that has been my week so far. Wednesday I have a 09.00am appointment at the DVLA in Maidstone , for inspection of the chassis number, after which I would hope to be allocated a numberplate number for the bus, then just order and buy some silver on black plates, though in spite of Oldbus's thinking it is a bit, OK a lot silly, I am tempted to have him make me a set of "replica German plates" and to roll with them. Opinions on the German Plates ??

I have given the German plates a rethink, based on your comment above, and have decided to give it a pass, It would be like people trying to make a number like JJ 05 GSP spell "William" just rubbish. Oh, and you have PM.

::)Right Update time again I guess . I previously posted about being impressed with the DVLA being very efficient.... well today it went a step further, and the bus a step closer to being on the road. I had to present the bus to the Local DVLA on the back of a Recovery truck.... "no wheels may touch the ground, or else we will not consider or process your application for UK registration" So I called in the help of a propper recovery guy.... £75 later, we had the bus in Maidstone, got there 40 minutes early, and was done 5 minutes before appointment time. Bob, the recovery driver and owner has a couple of BMW M3's of the Mk1 series, wide arches and all. Anyway, I was off to work by before 10am, so a great result there. The DVLA guy recons I should have my TAX FREE Tax disc in the next 5 working days, as well as being informed what license plate has been allocated. Then I will order some Vintage Black and Silver plates for the bus. On the way to inspection. In the mean time I have also cleaned up and Hammerited the original towbar for the bus.... These are worth their weight in gold, as they cannot be had for love nor money, and will sell for silly money. In Germany a towbar is seen as a part of the engineering integrity of the car, truck or van.... I hope Oldbus or Totti will explain further. Cleaned it up and painted, bought a new modern plug as well. Hope to fit it on Saturday evening when Oldbus and GTVSaviour (John) are here, we need to fit a towbar to Dave's new T4 as well. Westfalia towhitch "License" Before.... After.... Lastly tonight after work, I took the wheels off the bus, and fitted my German custom engineered adaptors. Tomorrow the alloys are being fitted with the tyres, and other swop job that is going to cost £60.00. But worth it. I greased the hubs, copper greased all the threads, and then pulled it all together.... I do not want to battle if I ever want to remove the wheels from the bus, or even the adaptors. Parked up, awaiting sexy alloys. Look out for the updates tomorrow with new alloys fitted ;D ;D ;D Oh, and I bought a 6foot roofrack off one of Mystery Machines mates, need to fetch in Bournemouth on Saturday morning early. Had to modify my bike trailer , which is just a spine trailer a bit with some old decking last night. Hope Plod does not pull me....

Good work mate, can't wait to finally see it with the wheels on.
The DVLA "no wheels may touch the ground" rule. Could you drive to the gate, then put pieces of carpet down and drive to where they test it?
