Those odour eliminators that work like a flea bomb (set it up in the middle of the car, press the button and close the door) work pretty well for that sort of pervasive smell. Should be able to get one from Halfrauds or similar on the cheap. For added, effectiveness, leave the air con on recycle to get rid of the smells in that as well. I had wet dog smell in my car due to actual wet dog and it worked a treat.

What an inspirational thread! Regarding the smell can I suggest the following before you spend any money? Get yourself to Starbucks and ask for the coffee grinds. Spread this liberally across the carpet, seats, glovebox, in fact just cover the soft surfaces with the stuff. Leave it for a few days and then hoover it up. Tadaa! The smell will have disappeared! And if not then at least it cost you nothing. I was sceptical but used this method when one of my children left a milkshake in the back of my wifes new car. Took a few applications but it really got rid of the smell. Keep up the good work! P.

Must admit I'm not too sure on the Rover myself Have to say I loved mine, but that was a turbo so had a few more horsepowers to play with; at least 160 after the ZT remap from a chap on the 75 and ZT forum. And I added a manual boost controller too after the original went west. Certainly the quietest car I've ever had and good fun after the tweaks. That said a mate reckons his grandad flogged his as it was too slow! Top marks for the save as most would have seen the Mayo and fragged it. And the Pony is fantastic

Got to say best way I've found to get rid of odours is charcoal spread around, really cheap in pound shops this time of year as well as no-one is having BBQs

I imagine it works better on a black carpet then. The charcoal, not the curse word i mean.

Had a curse word day at work, got home and opened the laptop. Came straight to this site and saw an update from xBoll. Life's not so bad anymore. Brilliant updates - please keep them coming. A Pony and a 75!? Whatever floats your boat.

The coffee grinds are dry so leave no marks. Di's car was a week old when this 'accident' occurred and has a very light grey upholstery. Try it, you will not be disappointed...unless you like the smell of cat curse word... P.

I heard of it but only with dry coffee (as in new out of the packet stuff). Old coffee just goes mouldy doesn't it?

Can't vouch for coffee grinds/charcoal (other than charcoal tablets being good if you suffer from excessive wind), but if the A/C pongs, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Wurth A/C sanitiser. We had a car come in with A/C reeking of dog and cigarettes, that was so bad that no one wanted to work on it. Used this stuff (you spray it up the drain tube) et voila, smells gone.
