Gonna call Xbol "Rover Rescue" given the rate he seeks them out and turns them around. I struggle to sell a car when i've sorted it.
The K Series Engine is a good little unit, I've not Been without one for 23 years. My 'owned since new' 414 had a HG at approx 1 year old and the replacement gasket is still on it now, some 120k miles later.
The HG's deserve their fragile reputation though. Mine was fine, rad was falling apart so fitted a 'nearly new' rad that came from the breakers when I stumbled on it one day. I was short on time, so didn't swop the fan over. The fan on ithe breakers unit turned outvto be seized and I hadn't checked it. Ppooped the fuse and it got. Bit warm, enough to create 'oil trace in coolant'. I just swop the expansion tank for a clean one every 3000 miles and it soldiers on fine. I taught my son and daughter to drive in th car and they both took their test in said, passed first time, great learner car IMHO.
Second on is an MGZR, came to us in 2013, I was short on time so opted to skip a spares n repair and got one that was ok ish. Then the clutch release bearing went pop so I put a clutch in it, the two cv gaiters, a track rod end, a water pump and cambelt, then yoof finished off a rotten MLS gasket, so I ended up doing the HG as well.........sort of spares or repairs.
I used an Elastomer Gasket, cleaned the head and block meticulously, checked the head for 'flat' with a straight edge and shoved it back together as a 'test'. I'm now at 7000 miles on it in five months, hasn't used a drop of coolant, not bad for a k series

We'll have to agree to disagree on that pal. THE_Liam - It really isn't who you are IMO - it's if another RR'r who spots it reports it - The moderator team don't trawl thro every forum looking for posts to delete or moderate - the way that nearly all posts raised to the attention of admin or moderators is if it's reported. No report and the "add" stays until they are reported. That's not quite true of most moderators, speaking as one myself. I at least have a scan down all the sections once a day just to see if anything is obviously amiss. Report buttons are so under-used that we can't rely on them, and we rely on ourselves to spot and deal with issues. Anyway, back to old cars eh?

Yeah don't fill up the thread with that stuff, the rule is there and its clear, doesnt really matter either way. I have made much constructive use of the R-R for sale baord in the past and am very glad of its existence exactly as-is.

Incidentally this week I have bought a car transporter trailer bringing even more knackered old heaps within my reach!!! This fills me with delight. In other news, I'm gutted I missed out on your 75. I've always wanted one, but I've never been brave enough to commit to one, what with Rover hearsay, reputation and so on. Then of course there's the Pollitt factor, which, on average, shortens a car's life by at least seven years. Yours would have been the only one I'd have been comfortable buying, BECAUSE XBOL MAGIC SPANNER HANDS. Ah well, c'est la vie. Chris

Incidentally this week I have bought a car transporter trailer bringing even more knackered old heaps within my reach!!! Is that as a result of the journey home with the latest Rover? Didn't sound like much fun to be fair, I've used an A-frame once and didn't enjoy it, think it's the un-braked aspect of it.

I love A-framing but this summer I am taking the new Pony to the offshore storage shed... I have A-framed stuff there before but I feel too old for that now, its just a bit too much stress for a middle-aged baldy ba$tard like myself.

Good God. I can't tell which is scarier, towing a Traffic with Clio or the whole process of getting the thing on the heath robinson mess...

What's wrong with a dolly? I am now genuinely scared to go out on the road in case this guy is around...
