I am BORED so here are a couple of my latest acquisitions for you to admire. 1) Alfa 33 1.5. Bought this about 6 months ago on eBay. It was in the spares bit and no-one else bid so I got it for £150. A-framed it home and its sat in my works car park ever since! Its a 1.5 twin carb job, and has had one elderly owner from new and has done 48k. It needs some minor welding on the rear ends of the sills (where have I heard that before?) but that seems to be about all. The interior is absolutley mint. I will attack some of its minor cosmetic issues (such as the fuel filler cap) as well, then I will use it myself as a daily. Its already in the workshop awaiting a 2008 work fest! Next is this: Another ebay score - £46 this time. It needs a clutch (bought one off you-know-where for £20) and some attention to a rattly tappet. Also there is some grot in the front wings but I am undecided whether to tackle that. Sills; floor etc are mint amazingly enough. It has done 100k and runs lovely, interior is particularly nice. Strategy with this one is do the clutch (engine out job) get it MOT'd and waxoyled then use as a daily + part-time A-frame hauler, thus liberating the Audi 200 which will be sold to raise a few much-needed groat.

Damn right you need to tackle the grot in the Subaru front wings! Make sure you don't ever lose the obnoxious hubcaps because I suspect they are near-impossible to get hold of.

At last, holiday is over and I have kicked my industrial-strength cold, so its time to get back in the garage and get cracking on the 33. Time for an evaluation. The worst problems on the car are rust problems at the rear ends of the sills. I took the placca sill covers off for a proper look. A bit worse than I expected but not the end of the world. A little bit of grot behind the LH rear wheel that could do with attention: Also some bubbles round the filler cap, a popular grot pot on these 33's: I just couldnt leave it alone and atacked it with the rotary wire brush: Some more welding required there then. To be honest thats about all the car needs, I cant find any other grot and all the CV boots, brake hoses and pipes etc are seemingly healthy. Theres lots to like too: Interior is minty. One of the elec windows doesnt work. Engine bay is very clean too.... Look at those wing tops! immaculate. Dealer plates and sticker. Love all that. It needs a good clean and machine polish and lashings of waxoyl as I am gonna use this as my daily, it'll not last 2 minutes without a few anti-grot measures being taken. Anyway I bust open the Mig last nihgt and did one of the sills: Took until midnight, but I am pleased with the productivity levels. Another couple of sessions like that and it'll be done!

Good work! You'll be "da man" for welding up the back ends of sills in no time!

A pair of bargains! Particularly the Subaru wagon, awesome! Bet the seller was pleased, lolZ! What carbs do those Alfa 33's use then? dellorto DRLAS, although the odd one ive found did have weber IDFs, in 36 or 40mm sizes. i think a 1.5 will have the 36s, and the bigger motors ones have 40s. ive had a few sets of carbs off these in breakers in my time, they're worth more than he paid for this car in the right circles

Ha ha, the eBay advert from when I bought it made a big fuss about 'these carbs wood B gr8 4 a racin car'
Imagine being the guy on the assembly line setting the carbs, doing like several hundred sets of twin dellortos per day. He must have been a total legend at it! I wonder what kit they used for doing that many, I guess he would have had a gas analyser on each cylinder.

Set off doing some more rust pwnationment last night, this time on the blebby filler neck.It took ages to get the placca surround off and when i did I found I had bust it in two. Ah well, that will teach it. Funny how those few little surface blebs can turn into that over a 24 hour period. Ideally I need a repair patch for this area now, I am sure hadrian used to do one but its now obsolete. Those Warny boys in Belgium do one, but its £12 to buy, £8 for packaging, £X for UPS shipping from Belgium, plus 19.6% VAT on top of all that, then £Y bank charges cos you can only pay by direct bank transfer! So no doubt a £50+ touch for a ghey piece of steel with a round hole in - NOT GONNA HAPPEN. I have found some geezer on german eBay selling em, hopefully I can get one off him for less.
