Hi Jürgen, i´d keep all the good bits and weigh the rest in, although looking at the pics you won´t get much for it! ;D Hope you didn´t pay too much for it mate! Gruß, Dave No, it was a bargain, there are some very good parts on the car, if i sell all the stuff, i'll be making profit.... so i am not worried... i got offered another 2 Variants through the internet (people saw the pics), so probably there will be a happy end I'll decide what to do when i removed the rest from the shell...

small update today, tomorrow more. I started welding today ... no, not on the car, i fabricated some brackets to keep the car mobile : then i removed the front carpet and found this : I am probably the first man to weld a gear lever ? ;D a-pillar right side, as expected... same on the left side, worse, but still as expected.... but i am quite happy, looked again at the rear axle mounts, and it looks like it is not so tricky as i expected.... some more pics tomorrow....

This man has no fear! I'd take one look at that and ring the scrap man! That is going to take some welding and fabrication skills!

i have no fear ;D by the way, VW has a classic parts department , and a lot of panels are still available ; so the rear axle mounts, the sills and the front panel.... that's good news... i see a lot of great projects here, this motivates me...

VW have a classic parts department ??! Where !? How ? who Here : www.vw-classicparts.de/ , looks like it is in german only, but i am sure, they speak english on the phone or by e-mail. If anyone has problems, let me know, i'll be happy to help. They bought back a lot of parts which were on the dealers shelves ( i don't want to know how much was scrapped before they started to do so); if you have a part number, there is also the possibility to check availability online; you can put all the numbers in a shopping trolley and they e-mail you back with prices.... they are not cheap, but 150 € buys me a brand new VAG front panel, the rear axle mount is 80 € for example, but i can have it, that's the point.... there are a lot ( alot...) of panels i need, which i can make myself, but in the case of the axle mounts it makes certainly more sense, to buy the VAG part.... and, thats great, they even have brand new dashboards back to topic, some more pics from yesterday (when the wife was cleaning the house, i didn't want to stand in the way, so i went downstairs... ): Spare wheel department, some small holes ;D Taking pics with the flash makes it look more scary.... this is where the fuel tank was, looks quite good. Also the fuel tank is in mint condition, as it is made of plastic. First production car with a plastic fuel tank, and this back in 1974... why didn't they do the first galvanised production car ;D And of course, the metal straps, which keep the tank in position turned to dust, when i touched them... here was the bump stop fitted.... designed to corrode, as all the dirt gets in the hole on top of the bump stop and can't get out... designed to rust... of course, it looks that i am totally crazy to build up this car, but i thought about it long, and i think, it will be worth it in the end. You can buy "better" examples for sure, but no-one knows, how they look, when you strip them. As most of the rust issues are caused by the design of the shell and the lack of any wax, even on a well waxoiled car rust will find his way.... Hopefully i can design a bracket for the rear, so it can leave the lift before christmas... then i'll be ripping out the sills and start with the hardest part. between christmas and new year i have some days free, where the Type 25 gets a new wheel arch and some fresh paint....

You continue to be a great inspiration Jeurgen.
That panel supply is a great help too.
The other thing about being able to buy something better is that it never has your soul in it.

Nice one Jürgen, it gets better the more you look and you haven´t had the angle grinder out yet! I know you´re going to do it no matter what anyone here says but surely you could find a better one than this...it´s not as if this is your only car!!! Must pop round and have a look at this one ;D

Love the fact that your going to restore this car, brilliant! I bet it's going to be a rewarding build, you'll know that every part of the shell is perfect once your finished Hows the project coming along?

I wish I'd known about the Classic parts department when I had my Mk1 Passat - I had to get rid of it because I couldn't get a pair of front wings and a front panel

I wish I'd known about the Classic parts department when I had my Mk1 Passat - I had to get rid of it because I couldn't get a pair of front wings and a front panel it is strange, i never ordered, because it seemed too expensive for me, but today i ordered the right rear axle mount; until i asked a couple of days ago, they also had lots of left ones in stock , too, but now they sold out. So someone is stock-piling them now so i have to rebuild the left one, that's another challenge then.. but they have wings and a front panel in stock and also a dashboard... only my budget is the limit ;D

small update : not much done over christmas, i have found some metal bars in the house , so i can reinforce the body during welding. I don't want the wagon to fold together, when i remove the sills (or what is left of them ): and then i found a budget way to repair the arches : ok, these are the arches destinated for the Jetta, but i just wanted to shock the purists.... Now waiting for the first panels to arrive, and then we go on....

As always, nice on Jeurgen.
Did you have the arches a long time ?
Where did you source them ?

As always, nice on Jeurgen. Did you have the arches a long time ? Where did you source them ? i found them on ebay, they obviously are for the Mk.I Scirocco, but also fit the Jetta with some modifications... they were about 40 Euros for the set... i won't put them on the Passat, as i want to have the tax-reduced classic plate, and this requires "original" body work

Aaaahh... The '06 and '07 plates and engineers reports.... ;D I think arches could be a big thing if people handled them right, and if the price is right. As always, nice on Jeurgen.
