Well Dave, at least the Capri is painted and ready for some attention mate.

The van is parked up looking all sorry for itself... once i´ve got the Capri looking more like a car instead of a jigsaw puzzle i´ll be ripping out the front axle and engine out of the van, replacing the engine then i´ll try to fit a MKII Granada axle in to give me some decent discs and some proper suspension. ...should be good for a laugh. If I can get over for RR09 it will be in the van, that is if I don´t break it again like this year! ;D

Wow Dave - that was a very nice reed!
It´s so cool finally to find a project thread on the TT. I found this by coincidence looking through google pictures, and was kept awake half the night to make it through the whopping thread of 69 pages ;D
I have just joined this forum, and i will also start a "readers rides" thread tonight. I am thrilled that there is actually a scene for these cool vans, and i feel like i finally found the place where all of you FK 1250 fans hang ´round.

Hi Brian, nice to have you on board. Just read your RR thread, looks like you´ve got a good un too! I´m not too sure about having a scene for these vans, if there is it´s very small, there are two in England, one up in Norway, ours from the Busraser (www.busraser.de) in germany and that´s about it mate. There is a rather quiet FK Forum (http://www.fk1000.de/) hier in Germany and they do turn up now and again at classic car meets but nothing compared to the VW "Scene"...god i hate that word! The van hasn´t moved since last September and i can see me struggling to get it finished by RRG09 but i would like to come over in it and bring the Taunus Transit Trailer along too.

Well even if it´s a small scene (i won´t use the word anymore Dave - promise ;D ), it´s really nice to find a forum where there are actual build threads, and even someone with the same car. It is a big motivation to see that someone went through a restoration, especially when seing the finished results. I is also very nice to know that I could ask a question here, if I run into trouble, and maybe be lucky enough to get an answer - that is worth a lot!!! I was into rear engined Fiats earlier, and to meet up with someone, and kick some tires over a beer or two, is defiantely also something i´m looking forward to (fingers crossed for RR10) I´m sure you will make it to the RR09 Dave. It´s a lot of work to change the engine, but with your hurricane build speed I bet you will make it. ;D You english lads have a nice sence of humor! And thanks again Grizz, I am looking forward to posting some stuff here too - even though it takes me forever, but i´m sure I will get faster along the way. I also have to learn some html for this forum, as I cant even get a link to my build thread to work in my signature as you guys have (tips are more than welcome!) Looking forward to your reading about your progress as well! Brian.

I´d nearly forgotton i´d got this... i need a couple more weeks on the Capri then i am looking forward to getting stuck back into the van. This year it will make it to the RR Gathering and not on the back of an AA towtruck either!! ;D ;D

Get that puppy the attention it deserves and looking forward to seeing it at RRG Sorry to disapoint you Mr. Viva but the van won´t be at the Gathering this year. With the Capri nearly done i´ll be getting stuck into the van in the non too distant future but it won´t be ready for August. We´re going to make a proper camper out of it, (instead of a two seater race van) and as the engine is knackered I might even rebuild it with a decent diesel in it ...but it´ll be getting a completely new interior, with T25 Multivan seat/ bed - fridge and a kitchen will be going in the back. I might even build some sort of elevating roof so that we have a bit of room in there, we´ll see. Cheers, Dave edit: looks like i might have to change the title of this thread to Transit diesel or Taunus Transit TDI.....

Well a lot has happened since i blew the engine on the M25 on the way to RR08. Not only am i a year older but i´m also a year wiser As much fun as the 24V was the rest of the van wasn´t really up to it and it was definetly not a comfy and relaxing car to drive...that is about to change ;D Instead of a sleeper van it´s going to be a van to sleep in i. e. i´m going to make a proper camper out of it...kitchen sink and all. The original runninggear is not really going to be up to the job so i´ll be swapping it all over for the most reliable stuff i can think of... this front axle... with this rear axle... with this engine and box... so who´s guessed right.? This will help Mercedes W123 300D not the fastest of engines but definately up to the job, comfy and reliable and will help me and mrs oldbus travel around Europe without any stress. I´ll be losing all of this... and will be buying and modifying something new over the next 12 months. My planned "to do" list for the next year Change bodywork over to a window van Fit 300D engine and box Fit W123 front axle(if not use the MKII Granada one instead) Fit W123 rear axle Remove bulkhead and refit drivers seat 4" lower than now Fit out rear with double bed & kitchen Fabricate new roof middle section to gain standing height The van is parked infront of the garage so let the fun begin... I scrapped an original window FK a few years ago, it was completely rotten but i cut out the window section and hid it in the shed for a while... This is what it will look like in a few weeks time hopefully... I´ll have to separate the inner frame from the outer one so i started drilling out the hundreds of welds this afternoon... ...more in thte next couple of days. Plan is to be ready for RR10 and bring the trailer along too. ;D I wonder if i might regret that last sentance...

LET THE FUN AND GAMES BEGIN..... Popcorn at the ready. Amazing how tall the boys are, they do dwarf the bus.... How tall is Alex this week?? 6'8" or more.... Christian ? Passed the 6'6" mark ? The bus looks especially low with them next to it.

that will be a good transformation; if you need camper stuff, a friend of me is regularily breaking Type 25s and has loads of stuff.... (he also has a soft spot for old Fords and Mercs )... the 3,0l Diesel is a very good engine, i wouldn't worry about the power, it has lots of torque , though they can be noisy in the van....
