gutted to here about that mate, I just had the head gasket go on my ca18, just what ya want for the new year eh?!! as an idea, how about an ecotec?? should be loads cheaper and I think everything should swap across from the xe?? EcoTec`s would be cheaper for a reason.. Havent heard anything good about them (well, they say they last many kms, and are cheap on fuel, but the cranks are curse word.) i've heard about a lot of engine builders favouring them to the xe, plus more torque. was just an idea, summit cheap to throw in whilst ya build up the xe..

I'm using an ecotec in my chevette and its lasted fine so far. I've never heard anything bad and the port design looks really good. In some aspects they appear better than the XE. The ecotecs don't have the strong pistons and rods of the XE but these can be changed in as the bottom end is almost identical. I thought the cranks were similar but they may not be. Some people prefer one, some people prefer the other. I would consider an ecotec if they are all you can come by but I see you have potentially found an XE so good luck with the replacement and the rebuild. May it be doorting again in no time

Fit a replacement then rebuild your other one. When it's done fit it to the Kadett and rebuild the second one to the same, or better, spec so you've always got a good spare either reasdy to fit or being built. Even better get a third, one in the car, one waiting to go in the car and one being rebuilt.

Hope you get the engine sorted out, surley running XE wout be that pricey and you could always rebuild the other one when its out. Cant be to hard to rebuild it fairly standard spec?
