I know what you mean Jonny69 I’ve not wanted to comment until I’d seen the episode, I can see what they’ve done, they’ve found a rolling shell with a modern solution to the suspension. Alarm bells started ringing for me when fuzz had to modify the chassis to make the coil overs fit, with hindsight I was shouting at the tv, don’t try and make it work, it’s not a proven design, cut the front off and use the viva set up from the original car! Many people don’t like taking on other peoples projects because you don’t know what they’ve done or whether the work will stand up to the test of time. Ultimately as the last person to touch it, it’s their name on it and they need to ensure it’s up to standards. Darkspeed is correct in what he has said. He is a testament to what I’ve just said, I follow his threads without comment, there aren’t many people who strip a road going car to nothing to rebuild it to the correct standards, which is what should have been done by the production team.

I'm so glad this was caught by blackpopracing If this had been someone with little knowledge or contacts within the car scene I dread to imagine the outcome. Steering fails because its a shoddy mess, Brake hard to avoid the inevitable and the master cylinder pops of the firewall... Unacceptable.

I agree with darkspeed, this is not a prop for a couple of hours of filming it is a vehicle that is to be used on public roads and as given back to Andy it's a danger to him, his passengers and other road users.

I can't disagree with any of the above. Aparrently it's not the first car to have to be rebuilt. There is a thread on a VW Corrado somewhere detailing a similar tale of woe from Car SOS.

Casn you believe it??? Thr builder of the front suspension contacted Andy's wife tonight and asked for all of the front suspension back if we were not using it anymore as he took it off another car and wants to use it!! Told her to give him my number and ask me Bit more progress tonight, take some ally and turn it into swarf;
cut, cut, cut, file, file file, sand ,sand.... and we have this.
remove the spring(?) off the brake pedal and throw it in the bin. (thats about 15mm diameter for scale)
And mock it all back up again with the spacers fitted and a decent spring fitted. I'll get some clevis pins for the spring and brake rod pivots, and proper bolts for the M/C.
It all fits so much better now with room for the brake pipe to exit outside the passenger compartment. It will be easy to close this off properly now. That a temp bit of brake pipe chopped off the original to test the room and angle.
Started on the new mount for the steering column lower bearing.

No room for a dual circuit master cylinder?

Mark, did you consider a thicker spacer so that the m/c mounting flange was on the bulkhead? It would be much neater and easier to finish off. Also, the cheek of asking for the bits back!

Dual circuit not really practical as ir has a remote brake servo.
Paul, bulkhead is only sheet steel, plus I'd need to extend the M/C pushrod.
Asking for the bits back is downright criminal. I will chop them up with my plasma cutter so they can never see a car again.

You should weld these bits around his hands as to never let him touch a car again...

For a light car a remote servo on the front circuit only works well, but a simpler option which gives some warning of an issue is to fit a float in the cap of the reservoir and a warning light. (Car builders solutuons sell the parts).

Wayne has already built the crossmember The stand it's sitting on is for me to just put on the floor so it's set at ride height - that will make building the new chassis rails so much easier.

He does indeed. If anyone needs suspension bits or even a whole car built, give him a call on 07759 374128. The suspension arms are back ready for assembly.

Told her to give him my number and ask me Thats absolutley ridiculous, some people should cut their tools in half so they fit in the bin better, then go and sit on their hands in the middle of the floor next to a fire extinguisher just in case they cause any more problems.
The new front suspension is a work of art.

What do you expect?
I couldn't find the episode with this car in it , but I found other episodes.
Seems to me its a typical car builder clownshow with the hosts hamming it up for the camera...
I wouldn't ask Leepu to fix a car either.
"TV personality" is a different skillset than Car Builder.
Its possible a person has both, but it is very unlikely there are enough of those persons to host all the available car builder shows...

I expect it to be safe, maybe not finished too well, and some cost cutting here and there, but not literally a dangerous car that would possibly kill them or others.

Unless the donor is a lurker on here, I’d be tempted just to say that the parts have already been scrapped.
