Gradually getting there - spent last weekend at parents doing jobs for them, but more progress here too. I've completed the trans tunnel wiring for the shifter, trans safety switch and line lock. This is the underneath; Shifter wiring; (missing the connector on the rear 3 wires - I ran out) and shifter finished;

Whats with the horrible red / blue / yellow connectors on the shifter , looking great otherwise , your best bet if you need to use these is to cut off the coloured rubbish , bare crimp them , solder and use some black heat shrink , thats what we have to do at work as we are banned from using them other wise.

The horrible connectors (I agree!) are riveted through the shifter and are factory stock. I would have replaced them but I cant dismantle the rivets as the heads are the electrical connectors on the other side. I did check them out and they are all nice & tight.
PS, They are mostly only earth connections to complete circuits so no amperage is running through them.

been plodding on with wiring - bit of a hold up while researching connector options/sizes for the column wiring. I've gone to great lengths to keep the firewall removable only to be nearly thwarted by the wiring passing though it. Fortunately I've found some small but high amperage connectors which will still fit even with the wiring through the holes. I have got most of the roof dash wiring connected up now though - pictures to follow soon.... MSD ignition wiring completed - only 29 wires to the column .......so far!!! Probably optimistic getting these, definitely have to do something with the covers - will need to paint them the same colour as the leather interior.

Your tidy wiring is inspirational stuff, you've made what would normally be so much spaghetti look really tidy and professional which is really good to see.

Thanks guys. Wiring should be tidy as it's the spaghetti that causes the faults. 90% of all car breakdowns are electrical related so it's worth spending the money on good connectors and making sure that cables are run properly.
Some tips;
Heat shrink - and even better - adhesive heat shrink is really important on any connectors in a hostile environment, crimping - with the correct tools only - with non insulated crimps and covers/heatshrink is better than solder too.
Soldering should be kept to a minimum as it creates weak points where the solder finishes and the wire starts. Also if you use any form of acid flux it will keep eating the wires away.
I'll try to do a soldering wires joint '101' for people later to show the right way of doing a joint.

Got the roof wiring plugs finished - not the tidiest but when you have 33 wires together it gets a bit busy! And here's a quick guide for joining wires, first make sure wires are clean and strip back equal amounts of outer sheathing. Then push the two wires together making sure that they interlock well - this will splay the strands out. Note the two strands of wire on the vice - this is just taken from some heavier gauge wire and they are around 40mm long. Use the two strands of wire to bind the strands of your wires back together again as tight as you can. Then solder the wires together. Finally use heat shrink tube to finish off the joint - adhesive shrink is best as it seals properly but also strengthens the joint as it holds it together and is stiffer than non adhesive shrink.

Thanks. ^^^ Finally got the help I needed to sort the resistors out for the ign warning LED - it now works -yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy! Should get the steering column wired this weekend - just the front lighting, heater and alternator electrics left then - could well all get done by the end of Easter. Off to Wheels Day tomorrow. but if I get the fuel lines connected I could even start it - gulp!!!

Column wiring is getting there - though it still looks a mess here! most things are working now which is nice. Was hoping to finish it tomorrow but it looks like I'll be reglazing the front door instead - mrs forgot her keys so we had to break in curse word yellow crimp terminals on ign switch are temp for testing only!

Wiring looks a lot tidier now - just need to wire in the ignition switch & it will be finished. This might be harder than it sounds as there is not quite enough space left for all the connectors now .....hmmmm........ I'll also have to wire the battery in now as the mini charger does not have enough oomph to power all the circuits any more!
