Tonight I have been mostly making Rhubarb crumble, which was very tasty  Mrs Blackpop continues to be unwell, so it was culinary duties again before I could venture out into the garage. I stripped and cleaned the UJ's as they had been hiding under a bench and were forgotten about. They were chromed a long time ago so they will be heavily sanded back prior to being painted.  Once they were done I painted the rear radius arms, engine mounts and alternator mount, no photos as they don't really photo well hanging up. 716 hours. |

Small update tonight, the postman brought goodies yesterday - the timing cover extension & special bolts from Darkspeed on this forum as well as some special little springs for the door lock arm mechanisms that are unobtanium in the UK but a friend in the states makes them so I got a pair shipped over. Photos to follow as I did not take the camera into the garage. The rear axle radius arms are now fully glossed as are the engine mounts, alternator bracket and also the clutch & brake pedal. 717.25 hours. |

Yep, that's the one. The bits that got painted this week were brake & clutch pedal; 
The little springs for the door lock inner arms from America;
Engine mounts and alternator mount;
and rear axle radius rods;
Passenger door got masked up today ready for rubbing down & paint;
 I had to re prime a few areas where I had broken through to metal again, so I re did all of the edges & raised sections to be sure of a decent thickness;
Engine mount and alternator bolts got primed as well;
720 hours.

No progress tonight as it was our local club meet. Took the Pop out as it was good weather. Looking moody in the car park. Very cool; perfect family transport. Actually, that has given me an idea to solve our overcrowded road problem; driving licences should be limited to those who have built at least one car or bike from scratch.

Took a trip out to the Bagshot Breakfast meet this morning, I had washed the Pop on Saturday afternoon as I had not done it for months, as it was a bit wet this morning it's dirty again now  A couple of photos that were posted on the net, the cream one is my friend Colin's.  Back home it was shopping duties at Costco before I could go and play in the garage. Once back in there I stripped the throttle linkage so I could paint the brackets, but found the linkage assemble was a bit 'S' shaped! So a bit later it was nice and flat again with the arm re-welded to the bar as the braze had come loose as well. Then it was painting again, the passenger door got the first 2 coats applied. Unfortunately this has revealed a slight area that is not quite flat if viewed from a certain angle - so a little bit more filler work yet to do on it before the next coats. 722 hours.

Over the last two nights I have been working on the passenger door. It was blocked back with 400 grit last night before two more coats of paint went on and tonight this was repeated for the final two coats. I'm still improving the settings of the gun and fine tuning the mixing ratio of the paint and it's giving me better & better results. Smaller areas are almost glass smooth now, the larger areas are still slightly orange peely so I still need to learn the optimum setting for atomisation with it. It's completely different from my other HVLP guns as you vary the pressure mostly rather than altering the fan settings. Still I am very happy with the finish overall, a sample of the better area here;  Phil is booked to come over tomorrow as it's now main body prep time! it could well be in gloss by the end of the weekend. 725.75 hours |

Phil came over tonight with the wooden roof bows so I coulf fit them back in which will help support the masking for paint.
We then spent the evening rubbing down the primer for topcoat. We made good inroads so I should be able to hopefully have it fully rubbed down by the end of tomorrow night. It will need spot priming in a few places but should be ready for masking on Saturday and paint either Saturday or Sunday.
I finished off the night by putting the last coat of gloss in the gutters - I'm using a thin strip of foam a bit like a paint pad to rub the paint on the rear of the gutter as it works better than a brush.

Friday night embargo broken, Phil & I have completely prepped the body for paint. Spot primed in a few areas where we had to sand a bit more and on the gutters & bodyline where it's more likely to have been sanded a lot thinner. These will be gone over with Scotchbrite pads tomorrow. We made a bit of a start with masking up as well;  The new front crossmember got a quick coat of primer with the leftovers in the gun, it will be brush painted properly later on.  and the UJ housings got primed as well;  Lots of cleaning up tomorrow, and a lot of masking up. The garage will get a clear out and be fully dusted & swept out as well. And then ............topcoat!!! Phil is quite excited I think. 733.75 hours. |

Thanks Grizz. So, is it painted yet? . . . . . . . . . .is it? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . err.......no! Phil came over today and we were set to get it in paint, but we just ran out of time. We pushed the car out of the garage so we could thoroughly clean it all prior to paint. First time its been out in the open for 13 months.  One of the doors in daylight for a proper colour photo;  Once the garage was thoroughly cleaned and various items were moved to the top garage we moved the car back in and started masking it all up. Phil had to leave a bit early but I finished the last part and then degreased the whole body. It's now ready for paint tomorrow.   It's actually a '59 Pop, but never mind   737.75 hours.
